The fellow who would withhold something that belongs to anoth er would also pick up something that does not belong to him sh .mld the opportunity present itseK, Miss Anna Gould, who married a ten cent French Count, oneBoni Castellane, has had lots of fun counting out about eight million 1 dollars for his royal highnest to squander, and now having become weary of counting for the Count, she has concluded the Count is no count and insists on a divorce. If she gets it the Count may have the pleasure of teaching some other girl something. W. Thos. Bost, the Salisbury correspondent of the Charlotte Observer, is now quite busily en gaged making appointments to the legislature for Rowan -county. His latest selection, Whitehead Kluttz for the senate, is a good one and is in every way worthy as he is fully capable to assume the re sponsibilities of the position. We hope, however, Mr. Bost will at least permit the good "people of the county to bow in humble sub mission to his appointments. Maj. W. E. Breese, who has been convicted and sentenced to the penitentiary on several occasions, for stealing only $117,000 from the First National Bank of ABhe ville, has finally succeed in cheat ing justice. The U. S. district court of appeals, at Richmond, has 'dismissed his case on the ground that two of, the jurymen who found the bill of indictment had not paid their taxes accord ing to law. This is a very frivi leus pretense and there should be no time lost in "passing a law," or correcting the present one so as to close this '"eye of a needle" through which criminals escape.
