OUR HONOR ROLL 6R0WS. THE CAROLINA WATCHMAN. WE H. STEWART, EL and Pub. Published Dvtry Wednesday t 120 West IhbIbs Street Subscription Price $1 per rear strictly cftsn in advance .Entered as second-claa- matter Jan. 19th. 1905, at the poet oflee at Salis bury N. C, under the act of Congress of March 3rd. 1S97. Salisbury, N. C., April 18th,1900. . This is the wrong time of year to complain of bad weather or rejoice over good. It is at present something like the Irishman's flea, when you go to put your hand on him he is not there. If you are not in favor of wast ing $12,000 or $15,000 for a new county jail, now is the time to make the issue. See your candidate for county commis sioner and get his promise, yea or nay. Shall we elect men to the house of Representatives ' from Rowan who will represent the people or the boss? That is the most im portant question before the people in the coming election. The people of Rowan are as good as any on earth and they deserve to have the very best government and representation that can be had. Down with boss rule! Give us good men for office and decent Democracy and all will be well, but a-jboss ridden Democracy is "as vile and as much to be de spised as the rule of negroes and carpet baggers, Let the people arise in their wrath and see that they have representation' in the lower house of the next legislature and force the boss to take his vile hands off the law-making positions that are the only safeguards of the people's rights. If the good people of Salisbury and Rowan county wants repre sentation in the lower house of the nextflegislaturethey had better see Unas cney Dave candidates in tne nld who do not wear the collar or livery of ajbcss, There will be important matters, bond issues, the creation of new offices and other schemes put upon us if we are not awake to the preservation of our rights and the welfare of our country. Away with the boss and his tools ! The Chicago Evening Post in an effort to prove the extravagance of municipal ownership of public utilities points out the fact that the indebtednsss of municipalities of Great Britian has increased from $965,000,000 in 1884 to $1,350,000,000 in 1894, and this is acknowledged by all sensible people as a most convincing argument, but there are a few speud-thrift sap-heads in most all communities who say that no town is prosperous unless it is heavliy in debt.
