I 7 J .' ; ? ; TRADING FORD. Another Vain y weeV an d many of the farmers are delayed from plunDg as many are not hroajjlryet. Ravprnl carps of measles are re- .pr w w w w - ported this week, of which some are serious. Walter Feez r's little child, nearly 8 years old, died Thursday night and was interred in the cemetery at Piuey church in Davidson on Saturday. It is rumored that there will be a UDion picuic somewhere in "the community on AscenBiotday. We suggest that all the PV,P. A.'s select some day and all nreet at the Watchman office nd or ganize. Lot us hoar from you all. A. B. Leonard has purchased a new buggy so we learn. Wonder, what that means. The wheat crop of this section looks very pr sperous now. The oats crop is not much. "Good Lord, Sam, what'sthat you gotnuder your arm?" asked Bill the other day when met him. It's just a few advertisments," said I. "You see I have quit farming and gone into the cattle . business and want to let everybody know it." "Rattle snakes and spring lizzards," said he, "no wonder beef is higher than the moon." We stopped right there. The Original Sam Snort. ROCK. . May 7, 1906. , There will be a good crop of wheat this year if nothing happens to it. W. W. Harris has been in" very bad health for two weeks. There will be a meeting of the patrons oh the 12th inst. at 2 o clock, for the 'purpose of discuss- iug plans for a new scnool house. A new school house is needed very much and it is hoped all will be out. ; . . On account of the threatening rain, there were only a few people out to church last night. J. R. Stadlar is the largest chicken raiser in this community. He has a fow hundred which will be ready for market soon. Nice fat chickens. The people in this community are bitterly opposed to the discon tinuance of the service on star route No. 18620. The change will not suit the people at all. The present service on route No. 18620 is the best the people hare ever nad, ana is, by tar, better than any other service in- this rural sec tion, Saw. r ST. PAUL April 5. Tne health of the neighborhood is very good. We have a mystery in our neigh borhood, on the farm of Charlie Safrit. It is Irish potatoes bloom ing as they come up. The wheat and oats are coming out in heads very fast. The Methodist pastor visited T. E. Webb Wednesday night and Thursday. John Kluttz, of Whitney visit ed his family thus past week. He returned to Whitney Saturday the 5th. We are having ar fine season now. KK. Safrit and his wife took a drive down to Sinet Sunday. - White Memos, one of our larg est potato raisers was in town Fri day. David Beaver and Charlie Yost went to Whitney last week to work. " Uncle Jack. Don't forget to renew your sub scription for The Watchman when 1U bU WivY . FAITH. A. Alexander Cook and MisB Onnie Lee Weneil were married Sunday. John D. A.. Fisher per formed the ceremony at the home of the bride's parents. Tbeccuple will live at the home of the bride groom, where he has a new home ready to move in with his young bride. Oharly Misenheimer and Miss Lnlah Cody, were married Sunday at Chestnut Hill. We wish them along and happy life. The painter Wm. Fesperman is in our town and Milas Stirewalt has his residence nicely painted Conductor Donaldson is giving the granite contractors plenty of flat cars now, and we want to keep him on the Salisbury and Norwood branch, because he is a hastier and can find the cars for us. Jonas Shephard has leased the cabinet shop from D. A. Wiley and will run it as usual by steam, turnins all sizes of columns and .oing other work. " ! Peeler, Bame S Co. had pay day Saturday at their office. We are having a great deal of rain here now. There are plenty of peaches in our settlement. More weddings to report soon. Many car loads of granite are I being shipped from Faith. Venus. LYERLY, May 5. We are having plenty of rain, and to spare now. Spmething new; the farmers around here planted cotton " seed and are getting grass. How 'is that, look out .fellows! A very heavy rain fell here yes terday, a gully washer and trash movef; the water getting several inches over, the Lyrely Bridge, Much fence was washed away. Wood hauling (among some of our farmers) is in full blast at this writing. William Rufty is the most accommodating in our midst, just ask him to loan you a load of wood I He will chop it for the stove and then loan it to you to haul to Salisbury. That's a wrinkle unheard of. Acres and acres of cotton have not yet been planted, owing to the recent wet and dry weather. Rev. and Mrs. Bodie are off to Synod at this writing, but are ex pecting to return Sunday May 6th. G. A. Boger having been sick for severaL weeks, has converted a large portion of his cotton land into corn. Look out, honey may be high. We notice Mr. Kluttz, had a gum up near the top of a tree yester- a day. How is that for a change? Several of our young men are going to ride the. Jr. O. U. A. M goat, in the future.- Don't forget to hold tight boys, for he -bucks sometimes. C. M. Lyerly is still working in the rock. He opened another new quarry this week. We are sorry that Bro. Josh of Millertown has eaten so much razor soup Looks like he could have divided with the needy. " The Hustler. Uore New Cars. The Charlotte News says ths Southern is now receiving an average of 40 new cars daily from the shops. This includes freight, flat and coal cars. When it is re membered that the Southern con trols thousands of miles of tracks, it can readily be seen that f the order for 8,000 cars now being fill ed will give not much -more than one car per mile additional over the entire route. When the new cars are z;: all 'delivered, however, they wil 1 make an" important ad dition to the company's capacity for hftndltog freight DUNN'S MOUNTAIN. " ' May 5, 1906. We are having an abundance of rain now and the crops are start ing off nicely.- Theprospects for plenty of fruit, especially peaches, areyery encouragingXur fast will end when peaches and cream get plen tiful. Jno. HrCurd, of thev Southern Railway, visited C. L. Keller's. Mrs. Pierce Leonard visited her father's family Sunday last. Mrs.' Leonard, we are glad to note; is now able to walk without the aid of crutches. Bro, Josh seems to have a ticker this time in regard to Moses. Well, as for him beiog uch a very wicked man, we think in order to have been the most wicked of any who ever lived, j he must have broken all the ten commandmants at once, possibly he dropped them, Messrs. C. L. Kosler, Wm. L. Cauble, H. L. Kluttz and David Eesler went on a fishing trip last Wednesday, returned Thursday and reported a nice time and a' few fish, and a number of which would have weighed 15 or 20 lbs. just how many we can't say it. would have taken. We are glad Bro, Josh is not dead and hope he will continue his visit in. this old world for years, to come. ' But we are awful sorry to note he has become so deaf. We would suggest as a remedy that he remove all the old wheels from his head and clean and oil them, up good for this is the main cause of his deafness. Then re move the pieces of records with a two inch auger from his .earg. We guarantee this to be a sure cure or it will be n miserable fail ure. Report results. $5 please for precriptions. We say "Urn hum" to Bro. Lee's statement in regard to the wheat in kind Providence. Well, we live in the same latitude and sji nothing happens we expect to be in our head as soon as we can get it ground-, and our better three fourths can convert it into a few biscuits. Yes, of course, Lee also seems to be trying to pick a flaw wjth Bro. Hustler. Now Hustler don't have to get among th G. K. boys to get the grip, he can catch cold At home. As for Hus tler knowing what he promised, why doubt if he knows the pass word, and he formedan idea that V. L, & P. stood fur vinegar, lettuce and peas. "Guess nearly every section along bur road was worked Friday last. We could nbtjdo much to our sec tion as only six of us were out to do the work. Guess the balance thougnt it was too muddy.! The Juniors at Union are pre paring to fix up their hall. We wish them success. So much rain now, it has wash ed every thing away, even the news. Success to the editor and P. P. A's. Bartlette. Had a Close Call. "A dangerous surgical . opera tion, involving the removal of a malignant ulcer, as large as my hand, from my daughter's hip, was prevented by the application of Bucklen's Arnica Salve," says A. C. Stickel, of Miletus, W. Va. - 'Persistent use of the Salve com pletely cured it." Cures Cuts, t j x .. cr? 1 11 .Burns ana injuries. zoo a. an druggists.
