Deserter Dishonorably Discharged,
Matthew Fortner, the preacher
sailor from South Carolina, was
dishonorably discharged from the
United States navy yesterday.
Fartner is the young man who,
while telling of his ministerial
calling to a recruting officer, was
advised to enlist in the navy to
study the conditions which might
aid him in his work when he en
tered the army of gospel workers.
Fortner enlisted, but says he did
.not fiud the navy suitable- to a
young man of his morals, and he
, deserted. . He was arrested in a
divinity college in South Carolina,
whWe he was pursuing his stuHies
for the ministry. Fortner stated
that he will return to South Caro-
