1 , :v i 1 1 I. iorresponde nee. FAITH. T. R. Lingle was awarded the contract for putting up the frame of Will Barger and Lem Miller's big stable here, where it is ex pected that another livery stable will be opened in our town soon. Some one tore down the chim ney and filled the 40-foot well half full of trash, at the old Julia Heilig place that belongs to M. A. Safrit. No one lives there. H. A. Wyatt will sell his place and move to Mt. Airy to live. G. W. Gardner's little baby is very low and not expected to liye. Painters from Salisbury are painting a number of houses in and around Faith, and it is a de ided ' improvement to our town. . We read the items from all our correspondents every week. P. A. Talbert, of Granite Quar ry, died August 22nd, age 43 years, 11 months and 4 days. The re mains were taken to his old home in Montgomery county, for inter Inent at Lane's chapel. The de ceased had consumption and had been in declining health for some time. ' Lawson Ludwie and J. D, A. Fisher, are the successful truck raissrs of our town. "-If all the little quarries here were in one, it would be a mighty large one. Peeler, Bame & Company have been awarded the contract for the granite work that goes in the school building at Asheboro, N. C, now going up at that place. They have just shipped one car load. , Venus. 11 RIDGE ROAD. ' The continual rams are begin DUNN'S MOUNTAIN. Aug. 25th, 1906. W e are still having plenty of rain and the roads are in bad shape. 1 . There seems to be a storm brewing in regard to the settle ment of the estate of the late Mr. and Mri Eller, of this place. We hope all who are entitled to a portion; of this estate will get their iust dues.. There is some talk of contesting the will and testament of the late Mrs. Eller. Burglars entered the store of oar merchant, H, A. -Earnhart, Sundaynight 19th inst., and ap- propriaiea several pairoi snoes, also same clothing. These 'par ties entered by the window. Chas. Friclsfhad the misfortune to be I kicked by a colt. Te wound is not serious,; but Charlie carried a changed .countenance for a few days. Lewis I. Cauble, family and mother visited J. E. Kluttz Sun day last. Mrs.jD, M. Kesler has regained her usual good health and is visit ing her relatives near St. Matthews.! It seems that seme of the par ties wlo are subject to road duty do not care whether they come to work ojn the public roads, even after they have been notified by the overseer. ; Our section was worked Friday last, and only nine of the I thirteen hancis came. It Eeems that these delinquent par ties are in a fair way to be sub jects for fines, and costs, for this makes; the second time some have failed to show up. A word to the wise is sufficient ! TRADIN6 FORD. And. still it's hot. The heaviesi rain and wind storm fell here on last Wednes day that we have had during the wet weather. The rain ,fell in torrents and the wind blew very hard. Corn was blown flat. The protracted meeting will begin at Trading Ford churcn Sunday, and will continue during the following week. H. A. Wilson, while turning land for what the other day plowed up and killed 34- snakes, all in one day. These are facte, and any one doubting' this state ment can see Mr. Wilson, he will be ready to explain. - The long expected wedding came off Sunday, but hoop, ha ha, who in the thunder do you sup pose it was. Venus can you guess? We learn that Miss Lucy Bar rier, who taught the school here last winter, will again teach this winter. She gave - entire satis ' faction last year, and we expect the same again. Your honorable servant Sam is taking some rest this week, after many weeks of hard labor, He is very smart, you know, and rest is greatly needed. Look for us again soon. Sam Snort. ROCK. We are still having rain almost every day, an unusually wet sum Generally, people are very busy.! Farm work and fruit takes some time, and there are a number get ting ready to build or repair their buildings, cutting and hauling logs and lumber. Lumber is being placed on the ground for the school building, andj the work will begin Monday, Sept. 3rd. JJ R. Stadlar has a new fishing outfit and it does well, catches them if they are in the stream. - . r Saw. ' ! To Cure a Cold in one Dai Take Laxative Bbomo Quinine Tablets. Druggists refund money if it fails to cure. E. W. Grove's Jgnature is on eacn oox. The! Baby Threshing Machine Co.; has put up for the season after 25 days work. Between 8,000 and 9 000 bushels of wheat and oats Were thrashed. However, this cqmpe ny will saw wood in the near future. Look out for their ad. in the Watchman, We are assured of a new school house at this place. The propos ed building will have a belfry and we suppose a bell. Messrs. Lof tin, Dry and Drury are the build ing contractors. Some of our farmers are busy plowing, turning their stubble lands for wheat and oats. It seems that Bro. Josh has it laid up for us, and tried to expose us before we went thrashing, by saying we would make chicken suffer, as we were half brother to a hawk. Well, we admit the charge, but the flop eared pine rooter forgot to state his condi tion, for when he went around with their machine, the patrons were compelled to put his chicken and rations in a jug. You all know the nature cf the razor back pine rooters. Who said chicken? We are informed that Jno. Leon ard and wife will remain on the farm of Mrs. M. J. Cauble, and cultivate thj same another year. Mrs. Cauble had thought some of breaking up house-keeping. t W. S. Earnhardt, of near Faith, visited us a few days ago. We are glad ts see -you Bro. Wiley, come again. are with Uncle Josh and be delighted to see the beautiful pictures of the Bro. correspondents. So hurry up, Bro. Venus and let us hear from you. As we have not been in the ranks for some time we will not detain you longer, so adieu until another date. Bartlette. ning to damage the corn and cot ton crops-through this section. ; The protracted meeting at Cor- mth began lst Sunday. On ac count of the inclemency of the weather, only a small crowd was out on Sunday. Only about fifty or seventy-five persons -were out. This was the smallest crowd that has been at Corinth for years at the beginniug of the protracted meeting. The County Sunday School Convention that convened at St. Matthew's church last Wednesday and Thursday was well attended. The church was filled to overflow ing both days. The programme was carried out in full. The topics were all very ably ,dis cussed. The 'greatest interest in Sunday School was manifested in this convention on the part of both speakers and hearers, that has ever been known in the his tory of the Association. Mrs. M. L. Stonor has been confined to her bed for the past week on account of an abscess. W,h hope for her a speedy recov ery. The Jackson College debating society gave an interesting debate last Monday evening. The school at Jackson College will close next Friday a week. The St. Matthew's Sunday! School picnic will be in Dr. Pool's; grove on Saturday afternoon Sept 9th. The suDerintendent has oromised several balloon ascen m. sions and a whole tub full of lemonade. A good time in gener al is expected. . Let's all go. Don't forget the time. Saturday afternoon, September the 9th. Misses Maggie and Mamie Bame, of Granite Quarry, and Miss Mamie Peeler, of Faith, paid Polly a visit during the convention. One night during the protrac ted meeting at Liberty ,two well known young men, who live just across Dutch second Creek, got lost. When they came out of the church to start home, by some means they got the wrong end of the road, and when they came to themselves they found that they were way down near Panther Creek, right close to Aller Trex lsr's. . As news is scarse I will ring off. Polly. Had an Awful Time, but Chamberlain's Colic, Cholera and Diarrhoea Remedy Cured Him. It is with pleasure that I give you this unsolicited testimonial. About a year ago when I had a se vere case of measles I got caught out in a hard rain and the meas les settled in my stomach and bowels. I had an awful tiirie and had it not been for the use of Chamberlain's Colic, Cholera and Diarrhoea Remedy I could not have possibly lived but a few hours longer, but thanks to this remedy I am now strong and well.
