Goodman has been very ick, but is much better. Mrs. C. L. Walton is not yet able to be out. We wish her a needy recovery. Our merchant, A. L. Lyerly, has received his car of fertilizer at last. . . H. P. Lyerly will move to Gran ite Quarry in the near future. We regret to see him go,i but wish him much success in his under takings, ; Some of our boys have quit working for the Southern R. R. Sothern, the young white man who was reported to have been found dead near Reids ville Monday with a bullet in his baain, is alive and in Danville. He was shocked when he read the story of his suicide and cannot account for how it got out. Sothern left his home in Greens boro Sunday on account of some trouble with his wife and came to Danville. He did not tell his Wife where he was going. I While here Sothers has been employed as a carpenter, but at present is confined to his bed as the result of a fall sustained Monday. C. J Three Years For Kincaid. The attorneys in the Kincaid murder case agreed last night that John Y. Kincaid be convicted of manslaughter and that, without iurther trial, his sentence be heard.' Soon after court opened M 1 1 V It tnis morning, judge reenies gave his decision, Kincaid goes to the penitentiary for three years. Kiucaid was charged with killing Will Brown at Bessemer City August 1st. The prosecution was dissatisfied witn tne verdict, but ot course r could not make an appeal! The father of Will Brown, who is here from Spartanburg, thinks the sentence was entirely too light. TT " 1 1 1 , 1 o.e says tnat nis ooy was not as mean as the people here believe. He denies the report that his son was married four or five times. It was thought yesterday that this case would continue through tne remainder of the week and the jury was discharged. Kinard and family were tendered a formal welcome Friday night by the congregation of St. John's Lutheram church. The.visit of the members of the church was a pleasing surprise to Dr. Kinard.
