The absence of definite infor-
mat ion from the seat of trouble is
embarassing to the officials who
are desirious of bringing about
peace. The State Department re-
ceived a dispatch today from
United States Minister Merry, of
San Jose. Costa Rica, announcing
that it is reported there that Am-
apala, Honduras, is being bom
barded. Amapala is the chief
Hondurau port on the Pacific side
and President Bonilla, of Hon
daras, is reported to have fled to
that port which was formerly one
of his strongholds. Some time
ago it was reported that Nicaragua
had seat a gunboat to storm Am
apala.
No Picnic This Year.
The employes of the Southern
Railway Company will not have
their usual annual picnic this
spring. Master Mechanic Koescn
has notified Chairman W. H.
Burton, of the transportation
committee of the employes' pic
nic, that owing to the shortage of
equipment, congestion of tra
rnigu price oi operating expenses,
etc., it will be impossible to furn-
ish a free picnic train for the em
ployes this year. This picnio has
always been quite an event and
those interested will no doubt be
somewhat disappointed.
The Merchants Meet.
Last Thursday night the Mer
chants' Association held a meet
ing at its rooms which was largely
attended. - The delinquent list
which has just been completed
was placed in the hands of the
members. A committee was ap
pointed to decide upon how the
list shall be used, and this com
mittee will report on the matter
at the next meeting. A complaint
was made to the effect that cer
tain wholesale merchants of the
city have been selling goods at re?
tail. A committee was appointed
to see these merchants and re
quest that they quit this practice
as it is claimed to be injurious to
the retail dealers.

SCHNAPPS is like a cup of fine
