The last legislature made it a misdemeanor to "beat" a board bill, which is very good, but if the law was made to cover any honest account it would be iuch more beneficial. ; Of course Senator Overman will succeed himself. Some parts of the State may be stronger for him than others, but there is no divi sion in the matter and he will be re-elected without a doubt. Rev. Byron S. Clark, in his dis course at the First Presbyterian church Thanksgiving day, among many other interesting remarks, advocated a public libary for Salisbury. A good idea. Why not have one? The country has again been in flicted witha message to Congress by i,our chief xecutiye. It con tains a good many words and a few ideas. Of coarsest was "&n able state paper and will be stored away to get musty and be read by the curious in the autumn of 3106 J. M. Rev. W. P.ySouthern, of Gran ite Falls, has accepted the posi tion as co-pastor of the First Baptist church and has entered upon hisduties. Badly Mixed Up. Abraham-Brown, of Winterton. N. Y,, had avery remarkable ex perience: ne says: "Doctors got badly mixed up over me; one said heart disease ; two called it kidney trouble; the fourth blood poison, and the fifth stomach and liver trouble; but none of them helped me; so my wife advised trying Electric Bitters, which are restor ing me- to perfect health. , One bottle did me more good than all the five doctors prescribed." Guaranteed for blood poison, weakness and all stomach, liver and kidney complaints, by all druggist, 50c. The installation ofRay; Ji. A. To the People of Salisbury, N. C, and Vicinity: Owing to the continued panic in money .matters we have on hand thousands of dollars worth of Fall and Winter Clothing that we must unload. It is this fact, coupled with a necessity of raising a lot of money in ten days, that we- address this note personally to the people of Salisbury and surrounding country. It is the season of , the year when our' stock ought to be about half what it is at the present time , but , owing to the conditions, our stocks are heavy therefore, beginning on Thursday, December 5, will place on sale without reserve our entire stock of Clothing and other merchandise at the most terrifying reductions ever put before the American people. IT IS OUR LOSS OP PROFIT AND MUCH OF COST, CONSEQUENTLY YOUR GAIN. It is a case of expediency. This stock is sacrificed because it must be unloaded. And, in appealing to the people-to attend this sale, we emphasize that to stay away is like throwing dollars away. We need the patronage of every man, woman and child to help us unload and we will ask yom to attend. Signed: SMOOT BROTHERS AND RO0ERS. Look for the RED SIGN. Store will be closed Wednesday, December 4 For marking down the goods and re-arranging stock. Salisbury PEfl& North Carolina. Look for the BED SIGN CLOTHING, SHOES, HATS, ETC.
