James Ducker and family have arrived from Joilet, 111., and have taken up their residence here in the Purvis House. They shipped a jsar load of household and kitch en furniture, also a family horse from JolietIll., which was accom panied by a young man, "Len Stokes" by-name, and while the car was passing throughTennessee, by some unknown cause the young man fell from the car and was killed. The car containing the furniture and horse, however, ar rived here, safely, and the horse has been .doing service since its arrival. It is reported that Mr. Ducker's brother and mother will arrive in about a month and will build a nice residence on the ruining property recently acquir ed by them here, They will work the mine and spend the winters here for their health, in order to . escape the vigorous cold of their western home. The u mon mine mill in course erection is dragging along slow ly, only 4 or 5 men being employ ed in its erection. The Southern mine is only working one shaft which is being" sunk on a contract Messrs. Hinson and Casper having contracted to sink same for $14 per foot. The Gold Hill Co, is doing nothing but pumping water night and day. Sunday and Mon day, a very monotonous and un profitable business apparently. Mike and party went fishing to the Bald Mountain mill, on the Yadkin river, Easter Monday, but unfortunately somehow the fikh evaded us and we returned empty handed. Guess we didn't understand fishing very well. Rev.
