HAS 600D WINNING CHANCE. Some Data Showing What Ur. Brian's Friends ire Expecting tor Hfm- According to the estimate of Hon. J. T. Johnson, who, as a con gressman, has had opportunity to converse with men from all sec tions of the United States, and who is said to be not easily carried away by appearances, Bryan will win, because he will carry Indi ana. Ohio, Illinois, Wisconsin, Nebraska, North and South Dako ta, Montana, Colorado, Navada and Idaho. If this estimate is correct, Bryan could afford to lose both Maryland and West Virginia, win bv six electrical votes. Bryan ought to carry Mary land and West Virginia and will do so, if he is loyally supported by all those who call themselves TtomnArftf.fi- and the securing of iVlUVVftWVW J ' these two states would give him a majority of thirty-six votes in the electoral college ; but in addition he will certainly obtain the vote of Oklahoma, which would raise his majority to fifty-four and in our opinion he will carry the state of California, which withholding the above, would give him an ex cess of seventy-four votes in the college, permitting the loss of Ohio or Maryland and West Vir ginia and should he carry Kansas, as he did in 1896, he could lose all three and win. If John Johnson can carry Minnesota for him, he could afford to lose two Southern states, Kansas and Ohio, and still win. We do not count, however, on Johnson's ability to carry Min nesota for Bryan, even if he could have been able to carry it for him . Belf : and this is the reason why there was such demand for Bryan. Peonle who vote for a man who . will not vote for the men he rep resents and pleads for, and that is why Taft will lose. New York ought to go Democratic, and, if here is an .honest endeavor to car ry the state for Bryan he will get it; but it is idle to deny that there are conditions in New York which make it difficult to pull an im pecunious candidate to victory. The fact, however, that the De- -1 . mocracy does not depend upon New Ycrk may inspire an effort, which otherwise might be half hearted, for if the victory is won without New York, the politica importance of the state would be affected thereby. But there is not lacking ground for the belief, that money will not play as important a part in this campaign, as it has previously and in the light of the insurance inves tigationB, Congressman Johnson's comments fit the caBe so admira lv as to be quoted in conclusion : The scoundrels who contribu ted so liberally other people's money to the Republican cam Daien fund in 1899 and 1900 wil be compelled to contribute their IT'S YOUR KIDNEYS. Don't Mistake tne Cause ot Your Toubles A Salisnnrv Citizen Snows How to Cure Many people never suspect their kidneys. If suffering irom lame back or aching they think that it is only a muscular weak ness ; when urinary trouble sets in think it will soon carry correct it self. And so it is with all the other symptoms of kidney die orders. That is just where the danger lies. You must cure these troubles or they lead to diabetes or Bright's disease. The best remedy to use is Doan's Kid ney Pills. It cures all ills which are caused by weak or diseased kidneys. Salisbury people testify to permanent cures. P. C. Shaver, 906 So. Church St., Salisbury, N. C says: ' am only too pleased to say a good word in favor of Doan's Kidney Pills which from the benefit I re ceived from their use, I feel it my duty to recommend to others suf f ering - from kidney trouble had frequent attacks oi this com plaint and suffered severely from backache. Tne kidneys were very sluggish in action and the secretions unnatural in appear ance. I had no energy or ambi tion and f sit generally run down wnen uoan s Kidney rills were brought to my attention, I pro cured a supply from the Salisbury Drug Company and they gave me entire relief." NEIGHBOUR. Albemarle People Are Strongly Attracted by His Preaching. Albemarle is glad that Pastor Simms was prompted to invite the Rev. R. E. Neighbour, of Salis bury, to come with his big tent and conduct evangelistic services here. The several churcnes uniting as they have, have made the meet ines union in everv sense of the term, and there is every indica tion that a great spiritual blessing will go out to all. Evangelist .Neighbour is an in- teresting man, whether in pulpit or met in private. He is nearing 36 years of age, handsome in ap pearance, and possessed witn a nature bubbling over with good humor. He has a way of making one feel that he is interested in those whom he meets, and no one can be with him long and doubt his nietv or his intense earnest- ness. Great audiences have met ;him at every service, and the immense crowds hang upon his every "word, while the clear and penetrating voice oi tne sneaxer reacnes io every portion of the large tent. The sermons have been practi cal, plain, and of the old-fashion ed religious type that reaches the heart and makes the hearer want to quit his old sins, get right with God, and to live a better lift They are full of the Gospel, and have shown forth the Evangelist's great love for the sinner, wbile he hates the sins that give to the De vil's side so many bright men and women whose influence oould count so largely for good . on the Lord's side. Having always lived a pious life, and havmg spent nineteen years of his life at preaching, Mr. Neighbour has gained an insight into human nature and into the pleasures and sorrows that have made glad and disturbed the hu man hearts and consciences. His sermons abound in personal expe- iences, and they are always used to advantage in illustrating some scriptural truths or making plain the way to an enlarged vision of full acceptaneee of Christ. Stan ly Enterprise. Best the World Affords, "It gives me unbounded pleas ure to recommend Bucklen' Ar nica Salve," says J. W. Jenkins, of Chapeli Hill, N. Natloral Conventions. The Democratice national con ventions have no advantage over the Republican convention in the matter of permitting the will of the people to express itself readily in choice of candidates. Proportional representation on the basis of party votes seems to be-indicated as a highly desirable rule for the Democracy as well as for the Republicans. States al most irrevocably Republican hold the balance of power in the Dem- ocratio conventions, just as the Democratic States are the con trolling factors in making Repub lican nominations. Furthermore, if the Republican conventions need to eliminate the malign in fluence of the Federal officehold ing machine, the Democrats need just as much to free themselves of the vicious operations of the unit rule. N. Y. Sun. The Remedf That Does. "Dr. King's New Discovery , is the remedy that does the healing others promise but fail to per form," says Mrs. E. R. Pierson, of Auburn, Centre, Pa. "It is curing me of throat and lung trouble of long standing, that other treatments relieved only temporarily. New Discovery is doing me so much good that I feel confident its "continued use for a reasonable length of time will restore me to perfect health." This renowned cough and cold remedy and throat and lung heal er is sold at all drug store. 50o and $1. Trial bottle free. - . WILL TRY HICKORY. Massachusetts Lady Makes a Change and gets Nearer the Uoontaios The following dispatch from Hiekory, N. C, to the Charlotte Observer will be of some local in terest. The lady in question, however, will hardly find a more salubrious climate than that of Salisbury : "Mr. and Mrs. William Tryon, originally from Fitchburg, Mass , but lately ol Salisbury, nave io- Lcated in Hickory and will make this city their home, provided the climate proves agreeable to Mrs. Tryon. "It is a fact, to be deeply re gretted that much comment has been made in different papers up on the mode of travel resorted to by Mrs. Tryon to protect her from cold and drafts. The ill effect that she has experienced from ex posure at different times has made it necessary that she have con structed a case of wood and glass to use in railway travel where drawing-room service is not main tained, having in mind not only her own health but the comfort of her fellow passengers. Mrs. Tryon arrived in Hickory in tnis case But upon reaching the house she and her husband are to occupy at present, she had the case put aside and has since been wheeled around the house in an invalid's chair. The Observer's correspondent called upon Mr. and Mrs. Tryon, who are interesting and intelli gent people, and was cordially re ceived. They are modtst and re gret very much the notoriety which has been caused by Mrs. Tryon's being compelled to travel with so much caution, lhey in formed the correspondent that they are so well pleased with Hick ory and the delightful climate which they feel sure will benefit Mrs. Tryon. If they like Hickory and tne 3 nm ate conditions are agreeable, they expe ct to make t their future home." A New Firm.
