REVOLUTION IN TURKEY. The Constitutional Forces Take Constant! v- nople and Capture the Sultan. Constantinople, April 24 The constitutionalist forces are in complete control of the capital io- .. night. The Sultan is practically a prisoner in the Yildiz palace. Hia formal submission has not yet been given, but he and the troops with him are at' the mercy of the army of occupation. Mahmoiid Schefket Pasha, the the commander-in-chief of thein vading forces, desires to finish the work without further, bloodshed. He is in negotiation with the Sul - - tan's represntatives and has ex tended the period of grace, within which the Sultan must make his final decision. Tne Yildiz Kiosk may be rushed during the night, ' for some 5.000 infantry ,are dis posed within a mile and a half of the palace. What disposition will be made of the ruler of the empire when he is in the hands of the costitutiou- alista is unknown to the embassies, although the opinion is held in authoritive, with the officials of the household largely responsible to the Cabinet who in turn will be responsible to Parliament. y The sending forward of the ad vance posts of the Saloniki army yesterday afternoon to within two and ont-half miles of the palace foreshadowed the attack upon the city, which began at 5 o'clock this morning. The bridges- had been picketed and small parties of calvary had reconnoitred tho ground. After desultory firing, just before dawn, a strong ad vance was made in the southwest part cf Pera. The attacking forces spread out in long line and made an atsuiltjap' n the Match' a and Taschkiachia barracks, south of the palace. Here they mat with a stubborn resistance. The number of casualties prob ably will never be known, but it is estimated far into the thous ands. -Around, the Taxim bar racks alone it is . believed that a thosand or more men fell. There private houses within the line of fire suffered greatly. In one quarter some 6,000 of 7,000 troops were engeged in the conflict, but with the terriffic ex change of ihots, few non-combatants were killed. Gonstahtinoble, April 27. Sul tan Abdul Hamid was deposed to day by joint action of the national assembly, which voted secretly, and a religious edict was issued by the shiek Ul Islan approving and legalizing his disposition. It is announced that the Sultan will be removed from Yildiz Kioak.to.?J day. Mohammed Rechad Effendi, the Sultan's brother, was immedi ately proclaimed the "new Sultan amid the wildest enthusiasm, "The tyrants have fallen I Hail to Rechad." The ceremony of Rechad's en thronement was immediately held, Sheik Ul Islan, head of the Mo hammed church, issued a decree deposing the Sultan on the ground that he had violated the Moslem religion by numerous acts inimi cal to the religion. ' Despite the joy in the city it is feared the country generally will resent the deposition and that civ il war will ensue. It was reported at noon that Abdul had been tak en prisoner and held by young Turks iu the palace at Cheraghan. Rechad is 65 years old on the 29th. He lacks craftiness and strength and is expected to serve the young Turks. John Trexler, a resident of the county, who has been in bad health for some time, died t at his home last week. The funeral took place at St. Mathew's and the in terment was in the cemetf ry near by. He was a good citizen and had a large circle of friends, many of whom attended the funeral ser vices. - Send 10 CeatS for 10 fine view post card b, or 2 cents for a uaniple of our Standard Remedy.' Soon er or later -you will go into bank- -ruptcy." Thus remarked Judge W. B, Council to Rowan Howell, a bright looking young man, apparently not over 20, who had been in jail since December on a charge of re tailing liquor. His attorney, Plhmmer Stewart, had just recited tof;.the court the fact of the hotly contested trial his case had had at the last term of court, the jury trying, six to six. Consequently he I felt inclined to entar a plea of guilty, thinking that his client, even if guilty, had been sufficient ly punished, rather thau precipi itate another such fight, the con sequences of which were uncertain. 'I won't punish him any more," said the court. I want him to. understand, though, that it is not becjause I have any idea that he is not guilty, because I am certain that he is." 'IThere are pnty of ways," he; continued, addressing the prisoner, ''inj. which bright young-men like you; can make money withoub--re sorting to such means as this. Make an entry there, that judge ment is suspended." And young Howell, who showed no signs whatever of his long con finement, being as neatly dressed as anyone in the courtroom, arose with uuconcealed relief on.his face and went out free for the first time in months to the fresh air and bud- shinje. Wallace was formerly a bar tender at the saloon of Shuman & Company, but for some months prior to the 1st of January last, worked in a similar capaciay for C. M. Bailey. When the saloons were forced out January 1st, Wallace started a small grocery store out on East Innes street. This was conducted under some disadvantages and did not pr ve a financial success. . The deceased had been very de spondent for several days and is said to have told his wife that he would kill himself, but not be lieving him to be serious she paid n j attention to the threat.
