Flows, a Tveterinary surge jl, formor.y of Hickory, has located' iu Salisbury. Mrs. I. 0. Griffin, who is still 'at the sauit'orium, is improving slowly. Ah interesting revival meeting has been in progress for the past ten days at the First Baptist church. The remains of Bam. Wallace, who committed Auicide last week, were taken to Charlotte last Fri day for interment. Rev. S. S. Bost, Rector of St Phillips Episcopal church, Dur ham, came over yesterday and will spend a few days in the city. The little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Ridenhonr died Satur day night. Pneumonia and whooping cough was the cause of death. . Gov. Kitchen has appointed Dr. R. M. Armstrong, of this city, a member of the State Board of ex aminers for the Osteopathic School of medicine. " Postmaster Ramsay received a message last week notifying him of the death of his sister, Mrs. Margaret Nelson, at her home iu Fanndale, Ala. The ball game at Concord last week between Salisbury and Con cord teams, was won by the boys of the latter team. The score was 11 to 6. The grocery store of W. R. Cox on North Main Street, was visited by thieves last Friday night. Some small change and a quanity of goods was taken. So far there is no clue to the thief. D. L. Cauble received news last Friday announcing the death of his father, at Webb City, Mo. The deceased moved from this county to Missouri, several years ago. Capt. R. W. Price me t, with an unlucky accident the other day. While cutting off a piece of beef at his place of business, the knife slipped and broke off the end of a finger. The Spencer shops have taken on their old time appearance. The shops in the different depart ments are veritable hives of in dustry and an immense amount of work is being turned out daily . Tom Leonard, a young man of Concord, was arrested by local officers last week and was taken to Concord by an officer from that town. Leonard was charged with having assaulted a man with a .knife. Dr. Chas. E. Smith has been elected Captain of the Rowan Rifles. He succeeds Capt. W. R. Cox, who was promoted recently. Cpptain Smith is a fine officer and the company will be excelently managed while in his hands. ' At a recent meeting of the Daughters of the Atnerican Revo lution, held in Washington. D.C., Mrs. E C. Gregory, of this city, was elected one of the ten vice presidents who are chosen at each annual meeting of the organiza tion. On May 24th there will be an other sale at auction of the prop erty of the yadkin Valley Fair Association. At a former sale the property brought $14.600 and there was a stipulation that this price could be increased at the next sale by ten per cent. T, J. As there has been several con flicting reports concerning the date of the unveiling, there will be no further reason for such. As will be seen by he above May 10th is the proper and final date. General Bennett Young, of Louisville, Kj., a noted orator and one of the old heros ofthe Confederate, army, will be the orator of the occasion. A. H . Boydeh will call the roll of honor, wbicr consists of all the soldiers who served in the Confed erate army front Rowan county. Mrs. FrancesfTiernan, daughter of Col. Charles F. Fisher, will un veil the monument. . The Chas. F.I Fisher CampU. C. V., will be, present in a body, and Mrs. "Stonewall" Jcakson will also be present. , This will be ah occasion of a life time and no doubt an unusually large crowd will be present. Concord Interested. ! T. H. Vanderford, Sr., and T. J. Jerome, Esq.,' were in Concord a few diys ago in the interest of the now railroad, mention of which has already beeii made, in the col umns of this paper, A meeting was held which, was attended by a large number of f citizens of Con cord and Cabarrus county. A young white man named Coy Squire, is now-in jail here and is a raving maniac. For some time he was employed by the Southern as clerk at Spencer, but he left, that placesomethiug over a year ago to go with the Salvation Army. It is believed that religious frenzy is responsible for his present con dition. Sheriff McKenzie has to look after him very closely as he is liable to do himself eerions in- injury if he has a ohance. An ef fort will be made to send him to Morgauton. Something Extraordinary. For tle first time in any news paper ever printed in Rowan coun-. ty there appear on page 5 an orig inal telegram. This message was sent by the buyers of J. Feldman who secured the famous Strauss Bankrupt Stock for less than 50 cents on the dollar. Bead half page advertisement in his to Prof. Coon Heard from. Warrants were issued by the city authorities to-day against Rosooe Barnes and Superintendent C. L. Coon, of the city schools. A moving picture show distributed free tickets, to a lot of school children and Professor Coon learn ing of it demanded them of the childien and destroyed them, Wt. Barnes, being told of his action, looked up Mr. Coon and the fol lowing is given by Daniel Reed, the only eye-witness: Mr . Barnes went up to Mr. Coon and demanded to know why he took the tickets away from his children and reoeived the reply. "Because I wanted to." Mr. Barnes then said,' "You must eith- eg pay the vftlue of these tickets or take a whipping." Mr. Coon replied. I am not goimg to pay for the tickets and there is no bet ter time than right now to settle the matter." Mr. Barnes then struck at Mr. Goon and they went together and made matters kinder warm until Reed separated them and puKuaded Mr. Barnes to get in his boggy and go away, WiM son, N. C. t dispatch. Oar voting contest closes May 1. 22 Farmers Unions in the County. S. R, Biyins, county organizer for the Farmer's Union was in the city yesterday. He says that he has just closed his first month's work and that he had instituted 12 locals, which now maks a total of 22 in the county. He thinks that he will be able to institute several others and that Rowan will be a strong union county soon. He will remain in the county for several weeks yet. Up Before the Ba. M. H. Salisbury Loses Another Good Citizen, Yesterday morning Edwin Shav er died at his home on West In niss street. He had been in bad health for some months, and was very ill for nearly a week preced ing his death . The deceased was a native of this city and had spent his 68 years of life here. He was a member of the company of the late Hon. Kerr Craige, in the Con fed 3rate armies during the c vil war and did service as & soldier until taken prisoner. Mr. Shaver was noted for his charitable disposition and his many acts of. bonevolence. He possessed abundant means, but seemed to regard himself more as a steward than owner, for he gave generously to every worthy cause Many persons in Salisbury and others who are now 'dead, had cause more than once to bless him for his warm-heartedness.
