Preacher's Wife Leaves. Newborn, June 21.- The con gregation of -Centenary Methodist Episcopal church was greatly startled Sunday morning when the pastor, Rev. R C. Beamer, D. D., announced to them that his wife disappeared and could not be located. The pastor's words were pronounced in as fine oratory as has ever been heard in that pulpit and no word of censure or bitter feeling escaped his hps. It was a vary pathetic scene. Oa Saturday, June 5, Dr. Bea ma'n went to attend Tr.nity Col lege commencement. Ihree or r-7 four days later Mrs. Beamau left Nitwbern, it is 8did ostensibly for Rocky Mount, but nothing has bfn hexrd from her since. Notes found in different places indi catu that she has left witb.a man named (iran1-, who has been in town for a few davs. The matter wan known to but very few prior to the Sunday morning services. The Methodist church is the htrg.-st and most influential in tho city, and one of the largest in thu State and Dr. Beaman'p charge over it has been marked with a period of prosperity, Special to the Charlotte Observer, WHERE WILL IT END. THE WEARY WAY. Daily Becoming Less Wearisome to Many in Salisbury. With a back, that aches all day, With rest disturbed at night, Annoying urinary disorders, ! 'T is a weary way, indeed. Doan's Kidney Pdls drive weariness away. Are endorsed by Salisbury citizens. J. M. Trexler, retired. 512 N. Long St., Salisbury, N. C, says: I have no hesitation in recomending Doan's Kid- iihv na T consider them to be a reliable remedy. I suffered a preat deal from backache and I had lull miserable headaches. The kidney se cretions passed very irregularly and plainly showed by their unnatural ap pearance that my kidneys were out of order. When Doan's Kidney Pills were brought to my attention, I procured a box at McPherson & Go's drug store and after using them, felt better in every way. My kidneys are now in a heat thy. condition and the pains in my back are a thing of the past, lor sale by all dealers. Price 50 cents. FoPter-Milbum Co., Buffalo, New York, Speculation as to Republican Insurgents and Democratic Protectionists. Reports and speculations regard ing a realignment of political forces and the formation of new parties fill the air. Predictions were made Monday :hat there will be split in the Re publican party as a result of re cent events in the Senate. Tues day came the prophecy that there will be a Dem icratic protectionist party and a Democratic free-trade party. On Wednesday we get the report William J. Bryan and Sen ator La Follette may p3ol their issues in the campaign of 1912. Ou Thursday comes the insinua tion, like that voiced by the Sec retary of the Treasury MacVaagh, that the leadership of the Repub lican partv may be changed, and the men in control relegated, to fche back-ground, bolt goes: no n ' man can tell the result. The break-up of existing parties has been predicted for many years The tairest opportunity cams in 1896, but the result was that, in stead of the free si'ver Republicans and the Populists or the gold Democrats becoming strong enough to control the balance of power, the first two were swallowed up ki the Democratic party, while the old Democrats were assimilated by the Republicans. It is a matter of constant re mark heregthat the situation in the Republican and Democratic parties 's similar to that which prevailed prior to the campaign 01 ioo. Here is the line of cleavage clearly marked in the United SlatesSeuate. Pollowiugup their insistence on lower duties under the leadership of Senators Cum mins, La Follette, Dolliver and others, a group or Republican 1 Souators is now openly Danaea to gether with the Democratic strength in the Senate, as were the free-silver Republicans through out Mr. Cleveland's socond term, to pass an income tax law. Aid rich aud the old-line Republicans are fighting it with all their strength. Yet the coalition claimB Republican Senators from Kansas, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Minnesota, will be passed by the votes of 32 Democrats and 17 Republicans. A similiar condition is shown in the slit in the Democratic party ovei protection. The Denver plat form advocated the placing of trust-made products on the free list. Democrats have not - sup ported such a proposition. It ad vocated free lumber, but 18 Demo crats voted for a duty ou lumber It favored duties lowered to a revenue basis. Democrats almost without division have voted for protection on the products of their States. Either the Democratic party as it was represented at Den ver is cut of touch with its Senators or else the Senators are above their party and like the Republican "progressives" are able to make their own platforms. Where the opposition to the leadership of both parties will take the revolting Senators no one can ten yet. ine oia-nne re publicans believe that several Democrats will vote for the Aid- rich bill on the final roll-call That will mike a fight in the next Democratic national convention between protection and freo trade inevitable. Some ol the Republi can Senators are almost certain to vote against the Aldrich bill. That will mean the partiug of the ways for them so far as the present management of the party is can cer ed . A special to the Charlotte Ob server of the 24th, from St. Louie, told the following story: "J. G. Witherspoon, aged 23, originally from Salisbury, N. C and until last Saturday employed n the traffic department cf the Missouri, Kansas & Texas Rail road offices in the Wainwright building, killed himself at the Royal Hotel, in East St. Louis, last evening by drinking carbolic acid. When the body was taken to the Benuer Brichler Morgue there was doubt as to his identity, as he had once registered at the hotel as F. Witherspoon and later as J. G. Witherspoou. The body was identified today by Harry Bierman, a clerk in the traffic de partment of the railroad, who said Witherspoon had worked there three or four mouths. With erspoon boarded at 3661 Washing ton avenue A postal card from his mother in Salisbury was deliv ered at his room iu St. Louis af ter his death." The young man referred to was T. G. Witherspoon, a brother of T. Edgar Witgerspoon, of this city. The deceased lived here for a number of years and was known as an houorable aud upright youug man, and was highly esteemed by his friends and acquaintances The cause which led to the young, man's rash act is not known.
