Mingus last niht. Spry will be kept in the insane ward of the jail uutil admission can be obtained for him in the State Hospital at Morgan ton. He is quite violent at times. Rev. M M. Kinard, who offici ated last week at the Kizer-Bost wedding, returned yesterday to Black Mountain where he will spend tue rest of his vacation. Only nineteen marriage licenses were issued in July by Register oJ Deeds Miller. Salisbury and most of Rowan county got all the rain it wanted Sunday and yesterday. It has been announced that D. A. One of the workmen on the Grubb building, John Sullivan by name, had one of his great toes badly mashed Saturday, by a piece of the structual steel being used in the building. He was taken to the sanitorium for treatment and he is getting along all right. The big Bale at Belk-Harry Co's has clossed but they will have many bargains to offer the shrewed shopper. Thursday, August 12th, will be the third anniversary of Nazareth Orphans' Home, Crescent, N. C, better known as Orphans' Day. An interesting programme has been ppared. Music will be furnished bv the band. All are invited to spend the day at Naza reth, see and hear the children and enjoy the day . KJzer-Bfist Weding, 'Miss Annie Kizer, daughter .of Prof. R. G. Kizer, and W. ThomaB Bost, of Durham, were married last Wednesday "evening at St. John's Luthe-an church. Rev. M. M. Kinard, the I ride's pastor, came home from Black Mountain, where he had been spending his vacation, to officiate at the wed ding. Rev S. S. Bost, of Durham, was best man, while Mrs. Arthur Patterson, of Albemarle, a- sister of the bride, was matron of hon or. The maid of h .nor was Miss Alice Kizer, the youngest sister of the bride. The ushers were R. O. Everett, of Durham, Dr. J. W. Tankersly. of Greensboro, W. H. Hobson and Clarence Betts, of Salisbury. A number of gueBts from out of the city were present, among them being Gen Julius S. Carr. of Durham. After the cere mony a reception was held at the home, of the bride. Later the couple left over the Western road for a visit to Lake Toxaway and other points. The parties to this wedding are too well known in Salisburw to ro require any comment from this paper. They number their friends by the score and they car ry with them into their married, life the warmest wishes of hosts of acquaintances and friends. Good Men Make a Change. r A. L. Long, who has been em? ployed in the yar deoartment, Spencer shops for 12 years, has accepted a position with the H. M. Wade Manufacturing Co., of Charlotte. He leaves for his new position Saturday. Mr. Long has been a citizen of Spencer for some time and his friends -regret to lose him. - :- S. L. and E. F. Kluttz, engine carpenters in the Spencer shops, have accepted positions with the H. M. Wade Co., of Charlotte. These young men are among the best mechanics in the shops and are well able to fill any position offered them. Blackwelder, who for some time past has had charge under the directon of the late Rev. F. J. Murdoch, D. D., of St. Paul's and St. Peter's Episcopal churches here, has gone to Jacksonville, Fla,, where he takes charge for tho present of St. Andrew's church. Mr. Blackwelder does not intend to return to this city. Mrs . A special from Asheville on the 27th, says : 'Iu United States Circuit Court this afternoon Judge Newman handed down his decision in the matter of Petpr D. Begins on Car Line. . .. r Concord Times July 29ta. All the Cannon mills will close down Saturday for two weeks . Dr. J. Phifer Gibson, of Salis bury, is here this week visiting his brother, R. E. Gibson. A party of people from Mill edgsville, Ga,, passed through Concord Tuesday in an automobile on their way to Lansing, Mich. There were two ladies and two gentlemen. They will go by Buf falo and Niagara Falls. At a called meeting of the grad ed school board this morning, Prof. R. E. Neely, of Virginia, .was el Kited to take, charge of the commercial department, including penmanship, to be established in the school next session. Miss Charlotte M. Hale, of South Car olina, was also elected a teacher. T. H, Vanderford informed us yesterday that his company would go to work on the street car line here next Monday, August 2. A car load of material for the oon. struotion has arrived, and every thing is in readiness for the begin ning and bringing forward the work. Work will begin near the Locke mills. The car breakers, Lem Carter, Jr., Will Desern and Len Medliu, all white, were given a hearing be fore Police Justice Puryear this morning. They were charged with breaking into a oar on the Southern tracks here about April 23, and stealing therefrom a case of women's shoes valued at $75.00. In the examination the defend ants practically admitted the charge, and were bound over to court in the sum of $100 each. None of them could give bond, and are now in jail. There are others implicated in the affair,- and further arrests will probably be made. Crater, who has been lick since February last, is somewhat better and is now at High Point visiting his daughter and grand daughter, Mesdames M. K. and W. D. Stroud. A twin banana was found by C . C. Sanford Sons Co. this week, which was somewhat of a curi osity. Manager Rufus Sanford says it was the first one he has come across in the many, many bunches handled by them. Dr . McQuire, as has been pre viously noted, has been very feeble for some time, suffered a stroke of paralysis Tuesday afternoon and at the time of our going to press Wednesday evening he was in a critical condition with hardly a hope of his reviving. Mocksville Courier, July 29th. A Ministerial Fraud. The Biblical Recorder warns Baptist churches in the State a gainst Edward Stanley, formerly of Palataka, Fla., who passes as a Baptist preacher. He was run out of Palataka, published and de nounced by The Palataka News and is said to be a iraud . Stan ley preached at one or two places in this county and Bojourned in Lumberton for a few days last week, but when his real character became known here he was advised that his services would not be wanted and he moved on.
