TELEGRAPH WIRES PARALYZED. Uysttrloos "Aurora" Cuisolf Communi cation Entirely tor a Time. New York, Sept. 25. Gripped by the mysterious "aurora" tele graph wires practically all over the world were paralyzed today. From early morning until nightr communication was erratic and at times cut off entirely between cer tain points. Old telegraph operators called it the "aurora,' for brilliant north ern lights usually follow such an electrical phenomenon, but in stead of watching for the display, they bent their mind and energies to untangliug the snarl and ad justing their instruments. The first break came shortly be fore 7 a. m. eastern standard time, or noou at Greenwich, and for the next five hours telegraph wire chiefs from Boston to Chi cago wrestled with the strange force. That the disturbance was world wide was showu by European des patches, which told of si miliar trouble ou lines on the continent as well 'as on the submarine cables. The crest of the wave in the eastern part of thiseouutry seems to have beeu reached shortly be fore noon, and after that, the wires began to act more rational ly. Still there were frequent throbs during the late afternoon and evening. Because similiar diatnibances have been noticed during the max mum sun a.) t period, which was reached about a yesir ago, some astronomers have conjectur ed that these so-called storms ori ginated in the center of life of the solar system, tb electrc-.nagnetio waves being simply pulsations from some mightier disturbance on the sun During the height of the elec trical disturbance the moasuring instruments in th telegraph flfi cea in this city registered the pres ence on the wires of upwards of 600 volts of electric current from the unknown scource. This is a greater voltage than is supplied for the operation of any of the land wires, and it lighted several of the incandescent resist ance lamps attached to the tele graph wires Brilliai't sparks flashed acrosB the gaps when the telegraph keys were opened. There never was a time when peo pie paid as much attention to their health and strength as they do now. Time was when fine stock and fine horses were fed more carefully than human beings, i The result of properly balanced ra tions has worked wonders with stock and recent experiments are proving that the same thing is true of man kind. It has been found that Quaker Oats eaten often and regularly taking the place of heavy, greasy foods will work wonders in the health and strength of a family. School children fed frequently on Quaker Oats thrive physically and are always capable of the best work at school.
