UEETINS OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS. A Very Important and Busy Session. Jurors Drawn. The poard of County Commis sioners met Monday, all members being present. The minutes of last meeting was read and approv ed. Ordered that Amanda Martin be allowed $1.00 per month out of funds for the poor. Superintendent Carter reported 26 convicts, 2 white males and 23 oolored males. Supt. Tomason reported 21 con victs; 19 males and 1 colored female. Mrs. Patterson, reported 13 in mates in the County Home, 9 white and 4 colored. The petition presented, asking that Church Street be opsned from Salisbury to Spencer, was not granted. Ordered that Obidiah Pool be exempt from road duty and poll tax. That J. W. Clampet be exempt from road duty for 2 yeais. Ordered to allow Edward Ben ton, J. L. Morror and Lee Wagon er $1.00 per month each. J. I. Bradshaw was exempted from road duty. A. M. Rice reported 1907 taxes . collected to date as $131 18, com. $131 75. 190S taxes $258.09, com. $251,64. 1909 taxes $497.01. Paid to County Treasurer $800, balance on hand, $76.40. Ordered that a franchise be granted to Messrs. J, F. Haydeu, of High Point, and L. D. Col trane, of Concord, to erect a long distance telephone line over and through public roads through Rowan county, subject to approv al of county attorney. Mr. Allison, of Concord, asked that the bridge over Grant Creek, on Statesville road, be lengthen ed. It was ordered that Messrs. Barber and Hartman be appoint ed to investigate same and report at next meeting. Ordered that a 5000 gallon steel sprinkler be ordered for use in road building, and that the same be paid for March, 1910. Ordered that the chain gang be allowed two days to repair road in East Spencer. Grand jury's report was read and ordered filed. Ordered that this board is in hearty sympathy with the good roads convention to be held in Asheville October 5th to 7th, and that P. B. Beard be and is hereby appointed to attend said conven tion. Dr. Smoot reported eome chills in camp No. 2, one recent case of fever m camp No. 1, and the health at county home good. Ordered that H. W. Kluttz, be ing the lowest bidder, he be given the contract to furnish supplies to the gangs for the present month. Ordered to exempt S. L Collette from special tax to sell. Taylor, of Newport, Teun., national councilor of the the Jr. O. U. A. M., was in Salis bury Sunday night and Monday morning. Mr. Taylor was en route home. Up in being ques tioned concerning the affairs of the Order in this State he said that he was greatly interested in the questions to be brought up at the special session of the State Coun cil which will meet in Greensboro Wednesday. He hopes for a har monious meeting and an amicable adjustment of the agrievances complained ot. It is generally believed the rank and file of the Order throughout the State will not favor sesssrion or further abuse of the Order by any. Wheeler was found guilty of disorderly conduct and was fined $5 and cost. The case against E. H. Meeks, and S. A. Blackwel der for assault were contin ued until the 11th inst. A. Leroy Powlas was found guilty of not complying with the drainage law and was fined $5 and cost. Four were found guilty of gambling and judment was suspended on payment of cost.
