COUNTY CORRESPONDENCE. Items of Interest In Various Neighborhoods Sent in by Our Friends. ORGAN CHURCH. t Rockwell.rural No. 2, July 7. The health in this community is very good at this writing . Theie will not be any cotton blossoms in this section soon. A a neighbor who was chopping oy er his cotton this week for the second time said he would do well if he got any this month, . Mr. TobiaB r'ennineer, ot near Bymer, died last Saturday night and was buried on Monday at Or gan Church. The funeral ser vices were conducted by the pastor Rev. H. A. Trexler, paBtor of Or gan Church, and' Rev .CP. Fish - er, of Faith. Mr. Penninger was eighty-two years old and about the oldest man in this commun ity. Charlie Boat forgot to take his pleasant smoke, on last Wednes day morning on aooount of the smiles on his face over the arrival of a fine young farmer at his house, on the previous evening. We suppose Uncle Bill was wrecked on Crusoe's Island, but made his escape and went off with Roosevelt's hunting party to the jungles of Africa, as he seems to be so well posted on the latest events of the present times. He recently made his return we are glad to note. HEED THE WANINN6. There was no preaching at Low erstone Church last Sunday, Rev. Yearick being called to Newton to attend the funeral of Rev . J. C. Clapp, who has been for many years a professor at Catawba Col lege in Newton. From all appearances it looks very much like we were about to witness a famine in this section. Columbus. Many Salisbury People Have Done So. WHen the kidneys are sick they give unmistakable warnings that should not be ignored. By examining the u rine and treating the kidneys upon thd first sign of disorder, many days of am ferine mav be saved- Siek kidneys ex- nel a dark, ill-smelling urine, full of "brick-dust" sediment and painful in Dassase. Sluggish kidneys cause dull Dain in the small of the back headaches, dizzy spells, tired, languid feelings and frequently rheumatic twinges. Doan's Kidney Pills are for the kid- neya only ; they cure sick kidneys, and rid the blood of uric poison. If you suffer from any of thetaboye symptoms you can use no better remedy. Salisbury people recommend Doan's Kidney -Fills. M. L. Helms, 412 W. Council St., Salisbury, N. C, says: I give Doan's Kidney Pills the credit for curing me of kidney trouble. For quite a white I had pains in the small of my back and I was annoyed fcy irregular passages of the kid ney secretions . u pon learning of Doan's Kidney Pills, 1 procured box atMcPherson & Oo.'s Drug Store and they soon proved to De the rem edy I needed, disposing of the pains in my back and correcting the kidney dif ficulty. The Dairy Industry of the United States. STRAWBERRY HILL. Craven, rural No. 1, July 6. After an absence of a few weeks Sam sends a few shots, but I sup pose that he will not shoot so hard. Some low-eyed, " cross -eared tangle-footed, weak-minded thing recently tried to rock one of our nice young men as he was return ing home from North East Street. Perhaps they had a notion to shoot, audi guess that they wish ed that they would have shot ome Monday morning, when the old man went to see our new po liceman, about the matter. Boys will you please observe the golden rule : uo to others as you would have them do to you. There was preaching at Liberty Sunday, also Children's day and preaching at Corinth. The series of meetings begins at Corinth on the first Sunday of August, good time is expected. J. G. Morgan visited at J. T Cranford's Sunday evening. Grant Trexier visited at J. G Hill's Sunday'evening. Sam Morgan is visiting at his father enow. John J I. Morgan visited in Ca barrus over Sunday. We are glad to have no sickness to report at the present writing. Everything is about O. K. near Liberty, now since we have a new policeman. But the Sunday gos sipers still keep in line with the times. If Crabbus and crab grass are conquered, nonsense and crack brain are still alive and keeping up tneir wonderful works, Much success to The Watch man aiid Record and their read e. Sam. Comp roller of the Treasury Fixing to Lose His M. Not content to draw the saleries allowed them, the officials of the government in Washington put in much extra time in devising ways and means to saddle their person al expenses on' the goverment. The other duy a bill for $4 for a pair of driving gloves for the coachman ior me secretary oi state was passed by auditor of the State De partment and held up by the comptr Her of the Treasury, the latter official sharply calling the auditor's attention to the fact that eight oars ago the government refused to pay for an overcoat, boots ard moccasins bought for the coachman of the State De partmenr. From time to time government officials, and especial ly members of Congress, have managed to secure allowances for personal expenses, including many luxuries, and they have not been slew to multiply the luxu ries when Uncle Sam pays the bill. Head- w Aooording to the last year book of the Department of Agriculture, there are 21,720,000 milch cows in the United States, and these are worth $702,945,000 00. The magnitude of the industry can perhaps be best understood when it is considered that these cows produce yearly about $1,000,000,- 000 00 worth of dairy products. There is no other branch of diversiged afiriculture so impor tant to the progress of a commu nity. The fertility of the soil can best be maintained by the liberal use of barnyard manure and the dairy herd not only makes this possible, but dairying is also more remunerative than other branches of farming when properly carried on. 1 he perpetuity of the country s greatness depends upon increasing the production of farm products from year to year, a result whioh not only furnishes- our people with food but maintains the pros perity of our farming communi ties. Increase in production can only come through improved methods of agriculture and soil improvement. When it is con sidered that the dairy cow is the foundation for soil improvement and farming prosperity, hf r im portance is best understood, and interest in her should not be con fined to her owner. She is an important factor in the develop ment and prosperity of our country. Peas Every Tblrd Year. The peas should be the most abundant plant upon every farm in the South. The intelligent and economical farmer will so manage hia land that it produce at least one crop of peas every three years Whether these peas are turned un der or are Baved and fed, they cannot fail to pay. No man has done his full duty to his farm un til he has seen to it that peas are grow'ng upon every foot that it is possible for them to grow upon. Plant peas early in the morning, at noon, in the evening. Plant them early in the season and later plant peas as long .as there is a chance for them to make any thing, and then, when next spring comes and your neighbor ib pay ing 20 cents a pound for nitrogen a.id starving his plants for it show him your crop and with pen fit r m ou ana paper neure now manv dollars the peas have saved you m 1 1 . inen wnen narvest time comes count those dollars.
