CAROLINA WATCHMAN ROWAN RECORD. age the barbecue J men know what when it comes to These gentle they are doing " - a barbeoue and it is no wonder their fame is tak ing on a national hue. They will be fixing an 'opossum for Bill Taft next. The Rowan County Board of Education was iu session here Monday, Outside of the regular routine, several teacners were added at schools where needed and the salaries of some others were slightly increased. The board of education is a very conserva tive body and gets more for the money spent than any other branch of our county government. The Rowan Dredging Association. This is the name of an as sociation that seems to have been originated in Iredell county and organized in Row an for the purpose of em ploying council, having Row an purchase a dredging out fit and foice the cleaning out oi Third CreeK. mere can be no objection to the clean ing out of Third Creek by those who own the land along its banks. In fact it Beems to be an important idea. The cleaning out and straighten ing of the creek channels would no doubt improve tne adjoining land and, to some extent benefit the. health oi the residents in the neigh borhood. But when it comes to the question of health it will take more than the mere dredging of the creeks. Ma laria and numerous otner diseases come from mosquito bites, hence all stagnant wa ter must be removed, or tne work will fail of this purpose. We see no reason why the county should 30m in this work except to benefit tne public health, which, if un dertaken properly would necessitate the organization and maintainance of a large force covering the entire coun ty with the dredging busi ness as the central eirort. The mere improvement of somebody's land at the pub lie's expense, cannot be con sidered a moment, that would be a game of graft, which, of course, is in no wise being considered. Our commission ers are too alert for anything of the kind nor do our people expect such favoritism . The association elected the f olio win cr crentlemen as its - ' . nftrmanftnt, officers: R. x. Harr's, president; and Arthur Davis, secretary. Two Papers Per Week at the Price of One. A Semi-Weekly. The Carolina Watchman and The Row ah Record are the name of the two editions of our sem weekly newspaper. Both papers are , printed at the Watchman office and, so far as the news is concerned, they are issued as a semirweekly. Oue paper givin, the news from Friday to Tuesday and the other giving it from Tues day to Friday. They are entirely differnt, each giving all news of of interest up to the hour of going to press, but no more. The ad vantage in this arrangement to the reader is just the same as any semi-weekly when compared with a weekly. The quantity and qual ity of news is greater and better, is furnished oftaner and fresher audit ii prepared especially for our readers. This latter item is of considerable importance to those who wish accurate and reli able information. The disadvan tage in taking only one of these papers lies in the fact that the reader will get only about half of the news and very often. the very piece of news which he is in terested in and wants to see will be found in the paper he does not take. The man who takes a semi-week ly and gets only one copy and misses one becomes dissatisfied, he knows he is missing something aud generally finds time to kick. Knowing this to be true, and, knowing that he who does not take both copies of our semi-weekly, The Carolina Watchman and The Rowan Record, will find himself in the same condition, we therefore urge all who can to take both papers. Th price is only $1.00 Der year ai.d tho subscriber will get more news than can be secured elsewhere for the same money. "Behold the Western Sky, Where people live but never die.'
