Bernhardt depart ed this life. His death was rath r sudden and was a great shock to friends as he had been con hoed to his home for onlv a week: and his condition was not egarded as serious, although ht ias not been in good health fr a year or more. Mr. .Bernhardt was 69 years old and was horn ir Cabarrus county. lie married Miss Martha Linn, whc died mere than two years ago. The deceased is survived by six chil dren, three sons ai d three daugh tars: Paul H., R. Linn and 0. T Bernhardt, and Mrs. S. H : Wiley, Mrs. A. E. Reynolds and' Mies Rosalie Bernhardt. Two broth ers, r. m, ana tL A. Bernhardt also are living, and a numbnr of other relatives. Mr. Bernhardt moved to Salisbury Boon after the civil war and engaged in busi ness, lie has been connected with the Salisbury Hardware & Furniture Company since it wae organized He has served as a county commigsiDner for a num- i.er of term', he his served on the city boa.d of aldermen, and for mauy years has been an officer in "St. Jt. ha s Lutberau church. Mr. Bernhardt served in the Uontederate Army during the great Civil War and was ev-r faithful to his duty. Id the death of Mr. Bernhardt one of Salisbury's most loyal and able citizens has pas3ed from this earth and gone to give an ac count of the deeds done in the body and to receive his reward. The funeral service was conduct ed from St John's Lutherai church Sunday afternoon at 8 o'clock conducted by the pastor, Dr. M. M. Kinard, and the inter ment wag in Chestnut Hill ceme tery. ir8. Hayue Da?is died at 1 o clccK luasday afternoon at the home of her daughter; Mrs . W. C. Elack mer She has been ill for three months of heart trouble, and has been a patient sufferer Mrs Davis was 71 years old. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Blackmer and Mrs. John L. Boyden of States ville, and two sous, Capt. Rich mond Davis, of Washington, and Hayne Davis of New Yotk city. The burial will take place at States ville, the former home of the deceased, tomorrow. Trie ar rival of her two sons from the north is expected in the morn ing. Sunday evening at 5 o'clock John Ferguson, an old man, was killed by a train going to Mon roe. He was . 76 years old. He was deaf and knew not of the ap- proach cf the passenger train. His mangled body was found near Catawba Junction, S.
