Miss Lula Patter eon, who has been working at the China Grove Cotton Mill, visited her mother, Mrs. Amma Patterson, last Satur day night and Sunday. Miss Effie Basin ger, daugh ter of James Basinger, visit ed at Edman Deal lastSatur day night. Kurtis Beaver and family on Main Street of the Rocks, visited Sampson Shuping a few days last week. On last Saturday night at 9 o'clock the death angel visited the home of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Powlas and claimed there 3 year old daughter, Nana Kate Powlas, I and carried it to the great) white, throne above. On Friday it was seriously burn ed by fire. It is not known how the child caught on fire. Her father and mother were going to saw wood and left her on the poarch, but had not gone far until they heard some noise and upon return -infound her on fire and coming out of the house. They did all they could to 8a ve her but she was so badly burned that she died Satur day night. She was laid to rest Sunday afternoon . at Rock Grove M. E. trrOVe M. Hd. Ceme- tery. Kev. 1 nomas IWnhlPS officiated. HAPPY ? Noah P. Shaping, a well known citizen of this county, died at bis home near Chest nut Hill Sunday. His death resulted from pneumonia. Mr. Shuping was 69 years of age and leaves a wife . and five children. The deceased was an old Confederate vete ran and was a member of the 6th North Carolina Regiment and was a brave soldier. H was a leading farmer of Franklin township in his younger days and has always been a good citizen. The funeral took place at Frank lin Monday afternoon and the burial was in the cemetery there. I Mrs. Leah Basinger, mother qf Orlin Cru39, died at the home of.' her son, near Organ Church, Fri day morniDg. She was about 60 years old and leaves one sen, Mr. Cruse. The funeral was held Saturday evening from Organ ohurci, Rev. H. A. Trexier offici ating. The interment took place in the cemetery at the church. Her death was caused by pneu monia and bronchial asthma, hiving I etn ill only ohe week Mrs. Cruse was a splendid woman and her many frieuds will regret to learn of her d ath. Mr CruBei nai the sympathy cf a largo circle of friends in his bereavement. Mies Catherine Crowell, of Gold Hill, and Dallas E. Duncan, of Granite Quarry, were united in me nappy bonds of matrimony Sunday evening at the home of Julius Earnhardt, a justice t' the peace Mr. Jarnnarat per formed the ceremony. These youog people are a popular couple of that section of the county and have the best wishes of their many friends. Senior Ki'ctiin Speaks Here. Gov. W. W. Kitchin wel comed the Laymen to North Carolina as a grand oli state, and to Salisbury as the 'for tunate city in having the privilege of entertaining the convention, this afternoon at 3:30 o clock in a very appro priate address. Practically all the business places closed for the o -casion, which took place in the Opera House with ar overflowing audience. The Governor is a very able speaker and sounded the note that launched the Great Lutheran Laymen's Convene tion, which will be a great success. There is a great at tendance from all parts of the country and other lay men are to arrive later. Accident at Cleveland. The little 11-yearsold son of Rev. A. T. Horde, ot near Cleveland, this county, wabf brought to the Whkehead- Stekes sanatorium Tuesday morning. The little fellow was dangerously and perhaps fatally wounded early in the morning by his father as the result of the accidental dis charge of a pist il. Mr. Horde was preparing to kill a hog but his pistol refused to work and while endeavor ing to get the weapon to act it accidentally fired and the bullet entered the boy s bowels. The injured lad was hurried to this city on an in coming freight train and taken to the sanatorium, where it is hoped by the many friends of Mr. Horde that he may recover, although his condition is critical and his recovery doubtful, MARRIAGES 1 (OrUCHVERMm) weakest organ.
