Effie Kelly, oolored, was before Judge B B Miller in the county court Saturday oharged with poisoning a two-year-old negro boy. The evidence being insuffi cient she was discharged. The boy had a very sore mouth and died from the effects. DeWitt, of Greensboro, while on a visit to his "daughter, Mrs. J. A. Molrer in Spenoer, died last Thursday, "probably from the effects of appoplexy. Ex-President Theodore Roose velt candidate for the Republican nomination for president, was in Salisbury, between trains, lion- day about 12:80. He oams in from Asheyule and was en roate to Greensboro. His car was stopped in front of the passenger station and, upon being called he made his appearanoe and addres sed the crowd that had congregat ed to greet him. The ram was falling steadily and somewhat dampened the enthusiasm and prevented many from being pres ent who would have been there. The es-president spoke of the employes compensation measure and the destruction of the Titanio and great loss of life. He said he was in favor of revising the laws governing the passenger oarrying steamships. He was very con servative in his remarks and made a verv eood imDresiion . Jsmes Dry, a splendid young man well known here who has been in a nospitai in Baltimore; xor quite a while died Sunday, April 14th. The funeral was held Mon day following. Mr, Dry being a member of the Woodmen of the W rid quite a number of that or der, were present at his funeral.! Mr Dry was a very energetic young man and was well liked by a large cirole of friends.
