The Senate passed the commit tee bill assigning quarters to the various State departments in the new State building and old Su preme Court building, in accord ance with the report of the spoia oommittep, with an amendment giving to the Department of Ag rioulture, in addition to its pres ent quarters, the rooms now used by the Corporation Commission. The Senate passed bills for election on salary system in Ons low County, for establishing office of auditor of Meoklenburg Coun ty ; protecting quail in Brunswiok and New Hanover counties; for Brunswick County to cede Eagle Island to New Hanover under cer tain conditions; to protect game in New Hanover by reduoing the open season 80 days; appointing a deputy for Robeson County and to amend Revisal relative to pay of Robeson County Board of Eduoa-tion. Professor J. A. B vins Passes to last Re ward. The many friends all oyer the State of Prof. J. A. Bivins will be saddened to learn of his sudden death Sunday night about 11 o' clock. From all reports it is in dicated that he had been in splen did health, hpd pirtaken of a hearty supper and had retired, when he suffered a sudden attack of the heart which resulted in his death. While superintendent of the graded school atJkf onroe he mar ried Mrs E . J. McKenzie, former ly Miss Ellie Howard, who sur vives him. Professor Bivins was about 50 years of age and in the full vigor of his powers. He was regarded throughout the State as one of the most capable and popu lar experts on all matters per taining to educational topics in the South. He was appointed su pervisor of teacher training in North Carolina several years ago . Entering upon the duties of the office, he achieved marked suocess from the cutset. Mr. Bivins was esteemed as one of the most valua ble workers for the betterment of eduoational conditions in North Carolina. Three brothers survive him, Messrs. J. D. Bivins, editor of The Albemarle Enterprise; C. M. Bivins and W. A. Bivins, the lat ter a resident of Old Trinity. The deceased was a native of Stanly county where he spent the early years of his manhood. He was Belf-made and came of a vigo rous stock, gifted, enterprising and possessing a keen insight into human nature. Professor Bivins was residing in Raleigh at the time of his death. Bible Conference In Atlanta, March 6th. Ihe Atlanta Bible Conference will convene in Atlanta, Georgia, Marjh 7th and olose Maroh 16th . A new registration has been ordered and all who wish to vote on this subjeot will have to register.
