two lectures in this city that night,

the publio school, made up of la

one in the adjoining rooms, where
the sliding doors bad been opened,

up long-ago. He then read his offer
of $10,000 to any oie who would
prove any statement made in his
books was not true, also offered to
destroy the plates and quit the
platform. He defied any one to
shew him a country in Europe
where the pope has any power
that has any standing among the
nations of the earth. He said
there were thousands of Catholics
who admire his stand and were
only waiting an opportunity to
leave the church, as they had done
and were doing- in France, Spain
aud Ireland. Amid great applause
he appealed to those Protestants
who have children in the Cath

once or go over to the Catholic
church altogether. He said he

Then for two hours or more
af terwaid the speaker, voioe olear-
y heard all over the densely pack
ed building, poured tolley 'after
volley into the Catholio ranks and
it was a sordid story of immorality
and vice whioh he laid at the door
of the priesthood. He gave the
names, dates and places in relat
ing numerous almost unbelievable
incidents, in whioh priests were
the central figures. With plain
anguage he attacked the system
of the Romanish church, as well
as the life and habits of her
priests, bishops and the popes.
At times hiB descriptions of oer
tain incidents whioh he said were
true and of which he exhibited
evidence of proof, were in plain
language that could not be mis
understood. Hardened men were
almost breathless, wondering
what would come next. The
climax was reached when he told
what he said he knew of the men
he was assailing and what had
been accomplished in the lives oi
some of them. He apologised foi
his language but believed it best
to tell things with jut dodging.
The address throughout, ending
a few minutes before midnight,
ought to awaken our people tt
this great menaoe whioh is ban;
ing as a pall over our country act
her institutions. No suoh publn
utteranoes have ever been heaid
in this city before and though it
took a Btrong stomach to listen t
it all, it is hoped much good will
come of it. It is a strange fact
that every ex priest, nun or
speaker against Romanism tells
substantially the same story of
priestly lusts, depravity, drunken
nose, political ambitions and deg-
redations. It is horrible to think
that suoh things can be said and
proven on an institution purport
ing to be a Christian church. If
one tenth of thejtatements made
are tgue, it is remarkable that a
single decent person, aware of the
facts, can be foand connected
therewith.
Immediately after the lecture
Mr. Crowley was driven in an
automobile to the Southern
station and took a train for
Philadelphia, where he is to give
a number of talks.
