That engine is about the busiest and most
convenient machine the wise man has on his
farm. It pumps water for him, runs the sepa
rator, washing machine, feed grinder, com

press, ensilage cutter, small thresher, or a
repair shop. The year round it drudges for
him, saving the man's strength for more prof

simplicity renders it almost trouble- proof. Its
construction makes it easy to start and to oper

necessary it will deliver 10 to 30 per cent above
its rated horse power. ' I H C responsibility

I H C engines are made in all styles verti

skidded, air and water cooled. There are
pumping, sawing and spraying outfits. Sizes

UYCOTIC STOMATITIS AMOKS COWS.
A Spreading Dfseasntiat Mai Kill Citlie.
How to Treat It.
We are beginning to receive re
ports of some diseases that spread
over the entire State last fall, My
cotic Stomatitis, or the sore
mouth and feet of cattle.. This is
a disease caused bv cattle eatins
9 '
feed containing irritatina funei.
which causes an inflammatory
condition of the mouth, tongue,
nostrils, udder and teatB.
The disease is the result of cat
tle eating feed containing irritat
ing fungi, the fungi is usually
found on the grasses during an
unusually hot, wet season, imme
diately after heat and moisture
being conducive to its growth.
The first symptoms usually no-
Viced is a dripping of saliva from
the mouth; inability to graze.
sIugeisnnesB of the cattle, a
slight stiffness of gateaud inclina
tion to lie down most of the time
Upon making a careful examina
tion, the mucous membrane would
be found inflamed and red, or, if
the disease has progressed far
enough, small - ulcers may be
found The first portion usually
affected is the dental pad, which
rtakes the place of the front teeth
in the upper jaw: this becomes
luflamed and raw, consequently,
the cattle are. unable to graze, not
being able to cut the grass blades,
but oonld eat feed already cut.
From this point, if not properly
treated, ' the inflammation will
spread until the entire month and
tongue are involved, becoming
raw, making it . impossible foi
the cattle to eat anything. Ir
some cases the outer portion of
the lips and nostrils are involved .
In milch cattle, there is a great
deorease in the milk flow, heav
milkers may completely dry up
in a few days. Small red spot
may be seen in the odder atd
the teats. A temperature of 105
degrees F. to 107 d crees F. i fre
quently seen. If the feet arc ex
amined carefully small red 8 pets
or ulcers may be seen at the top
of the hoof or between the tees.
it tne' anectea animals are on

some place where' they can b
properly treated and fed on braD,
mashes, or other easily masticated
food atd givan plenty of fresh wa
ter. In each gallon of water put
one teaspoonful of ohlorate of
potash. The mouth should be well
washed two or three times a day
with a three per cent water solu
tion of carbolic acid, or creoliu
or Borne other reliable antiseptic
The cattle should be kept in i
dry, clean plaoe, in order to keep
the feet as free from dirt as possi
Lie, The feet should also be
washed several time a day with an
antiseptic solution. One of the
most important things is to see
that the cattle get something that
they can eat. If constipated, give
a pound of Epsom salts dissolved
in one quart of warm water. If
properly treated, the loss should
not exceed one or two per cent.
