N. C. Roberts, formerly editor
of the Spencer Crescent, was tried
Friday morning in Rowan county
court. He was found guilty in
four charges of passing worthless
cheoks aud was sentenced to nine
ty days for each offense which

fixed at $400 which he was unable
to give. '
A big haul was made last Sat
urday when Revenue Officers Wat

Thompson arrested a man by the
name of John D . Charles who was
driving a Ford automobile con
taining 85 gallons of oorn liquor
in seven kegs. There was a negro
iu the car also but he quiokly de
cided that he had better leave, this'
