At the mcrning hour the children rendered a very pleasing aLd in teresting program, the churoh's capacity being taxed to its utmost. Three white men were arrested near Town Creek Monday morning by Chief of Polioe Miller and Cap tain Frank Cauble for breakiug iuto and robbing a commissary car on the Southern's side track near the ice plant. They were placed in jail to await trial. Two are said to be from Danville, Va , and one from Atlanta. They were given a hearing yesterday morning in the connty court and Judge Carlton sent the two younger to the work house for sixty days and the older one was given ninety days on the roads. They were hardly more, than boys. N. B. MoCanlcss has been nam ed as chairman of the "Solioiting Committe" to raise funds for ths erection of a new church for First Methodist Church. Rev. John W. Mocre has just returned ftom Clover, S. C, his boyhood home, where he was hold ing revival services. William T. Rainey, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. T . Rainey, after having taken a thorough course in medicine and su.'gery, has decided to locate in Salisbury for the prao tice of his profession. Rev. W. B. " FloydaB. Miller, who has been mauager of the Rogers Clothing Ocmpany for several years, left Saturday morning tor Chicago where he has aooepted a position with a Portrait Company. Mr. Miller is a splendid business man and his many friends here hope him much suooesi in his new field. The Colonial Theatre having changed hands is now under the management of Geo. C. Hall of Richmond. Considerable work in the way of repairing, painting and deoorating has been done on' the interior of this building making it very attractive. The Grand Lodge Kuights of Pythias will convene here for three days session June 8th. Seven committees, to wit: Finance, D O K. K , Hall, Candidates for D. O. K. Finals of lie Court The Rowan Superior May term presided over by Judge Thos. J. Sh&w, adjourned Saturday after noon, having been in session two wejka. A case relative to a horse trade occupied about all Thursday. Quite a number of witnesses were present, and, it is said, the plain tiff lost the case which cost him $150, more than, the horse was worth. After listening to the pleadings of N, C. Roberts, reoent editor of the Spencer Orescent, who hsd previously been given twelve months on the roads for passing worthless checks and embezzle ment, the sentenoe was reduced to 'five months. Waverlus Lyerly, convioted of forgery, was given twelve months in the State prison. Jim Cooper, ool&ed, who shot and killed Luoinda Prioe, was sentenced to oe electrocuted in the State prison at Raleigh on Friday, July 28 rd, he having been convictsd of murder in the first degree. Cooper's attorneys have decided to take an appeal and hope to get their client off with a term in the penitentiary. Burglars rad sacked the . house of L. H. Kin ney, took plaoe at Newport May 8th and wss again celebrated by a church ceremony in Cincinnati Suuday, the 9&h. Miss Beall has visited in Salisbury with her mother. . Miss Gertrude Brown of Ashe ville, and Hugh Sowers, a Salis bury boy, were married in Ashe ville last week. Hugh is well known here and ii a splendid you )g man. The marriage of MisB Virgia Snider, daughter of Mrs. F. H. Snider and R. 0. Honeycutt both of Spencer, took place at the Bap tist parsonage Saturday night, Dr. Carter officiating . Last Wednesday morning a beautiful wedding ceremony was performed it the home of Rev. and Mrs. C. B. Heller, in Spencer, when their daughter, Miss Mary, beoame the bride of Charlie Jen kins of Spencer, splendid young people. The ceremony was per formed by Rev. Heller, after whioh the happy couple left for Western N;rth Carolina to spend a few weeks. They will reside at Faith. The marriage of Miss Eloise, daughter of Mrs. A. L. McNeal of Salisbury, and Stuart Christhilf of Baltimore, was celebrated in St- Luke's Church last Wednes day evening, Rev. W. W. Way officiating. It was quite an event in the society circles of the oity and a number of out-of-town guests were present. They will make their home in Baltimore. W. H. Booker of Richmond, Va., secretary of the Salisbury Chamber of Commerce, was in Raleigh yesterday to attend the meeting of she club secretaries and to assist in forming a state wide club to take charge of the neonles affairs, bring in immi- m mV grants, etc Paul T.
