Misuaris Goes Forward Twojii Ullls and Sewerage and Ko Com 1 nercial ChibtMer; J Charlotte Observer of Saturday morning Albemarle, Sept. 24 Maybe veral (bought the statement made by your correspondent through the columns of The Ob genrer ' several "weeks ago to the ffet that Albemarle was soon to have another $500,000 invested in new! cotton mills was newspaper "dope.; If so this is now no longer the belief, for there is no longer any doubt or speculation. Several days ago the Wiscassett Mills Company and the Efird Manufacturing uompany made the Board of Alderman this . pro position: Jlh9 bonds for sewer would be. purchased by the mill at considerably more than th - highest offer of any other oompac making bids. The mills won! pay $4,000 towards putting dow the main line of the sewer system and commence within the next. few days and build two additions cotton mills, the Efird Manufac taring Company one and the Wis cassei Mills Company the other both to cost completed not les tnan souu.uuo. l nig onei was made to the aldermen in oonsid eration that the city would alios the mills to tap the town's sewer line and take care of all future suits against the city and the mil companies for damages caused from the emptying of the sewer. The board accented the offer and an architect from Conootd will be here tomorrow to take charge of the erection of the mills which will commence at once. The bonds will be bought by home oompanies and the sewer system will be put down, work to com mence in the 'next few days. Mayor M. J. Harris, who haB be ju poshing the matter for severa days is optimistic today over the future cf Albemare and thinks that this is only the beginning of what will make piedmont North Carolina "sit up and take notice. Anotner gentleman wno is on the inside of oertain business mat ters told the writer this morning that while the $500,000 mills was a big thing for Albemarle, it was only a forerunner of much greater things coming to this city in the near future . Another gentlemau, who stated his information was direct, told your correspondent that along with the two new mills being oom menced, the Wisoassett Mills Com pany and Efird Manufacturing Company would erect near the mills graded sohool building a Y. M. O. A. and gymnasium for the operatives of the mills of these two companies. It is said also that the Wiscassett Mills Com pany is t d oommence at once the erection of a dwelling for Mr. Denning, the mill's superintend ent, which when oompleted will be one of the most handsome and oostly residences in the city. This will be a following of the precedent set ty the Efird maun faoturing Company, that company having just finished a handsome residence for its superintendent, Mr. Benette. ao, with all these new enter prise! and the, finishing of the aluminium faotory at Badin, it looks like Albemarle -is on the threshold of a bright future . Biliousness and Constipation. It is osrtainly surprising that any woman will endure the miser able feelings caused by biliousness and constipation, when relief is so easily had and at so little expense, Mrs. Ohas. Peck, Gates, N. Y., writes: "About a year ago I used two bottles of Chamberlain's Tab lets and they oured me of bilious ness and constipation ." Obtain able everywhere. . Not In the Show Trust. The Robinson Famous Shows, whhh exhibit here Ootober 13bh , are not in the show trust. Sever al inducements were made to them to join the show trust, but they reiasdd an oners, and will con tinue to give the public the same high olass fhows, only this season will be enlarged in every depart ment, as the show now. travels on its own special trams of cars. The trust magnates advised the management to obliterate, the streat parade, but he refused posi tively, and this year has enlarged hit street pageant so as to make it two miles in length, with plenty of hq asio. pretty ladies, due horses, fum.y clowns and massive open cages of animals and takes plaoe daily on the pubJiov streets free. . The Fqoailzation Snag. - While serving Mecklenburg County in the last Legislature, Mr. Robert S. Hutchison made as thorough a study of the tax question as time, circumstances and research would permit. H bad resort to letters to his consti tuency asking what they found wrong with the old system and in viting suggestions as to how an improvement might be brought about. It was remarkable as one feature in the replies that many farmerB put low values and farm ing lands into evidence and sug gested that a more eq.ifcable as sessment on these lauds would be productive of beneficial results. We believe th Observer's conten tion that theie has been too much an inclination to bring about an equalization in taxation by rais ing the values of buildings in cit ies out of proportion to the raise in values on farm laada will stand investigation. A reference to that "little map" shows that in only one towuship in Mecklenburg is land taxed as high as $12 an acre, and that is in Sharon, near Char lotte Some farm lands that might be bought for from $75 to $150 an acre are taxed arcund $10 an acre. But it might be treason to talk along tbat line Charlotte 0s server. Worth Their Weight In Gold. "I have used Chamberlain's Tablets and found them to be just as represented, a quick relief for headache, dizzy spells and other symptoms dene ting a torpid liver and a disordered condition of the digestiva organs. They are worth their weight in gold," writ's Mies Clara A. Dnggs, Elba, N. Y. Obtainable everywhere. The Parade. Too much cannot be said of The Robinson's Famous Shows parade, which takes place daily on the public streets free for everbody, aud is one mile in length and in troducing features never attempt ed by any other show for their street pageant. No parade is complete without a oaiiope and the management has spared no expense in this everTastiug feature of the parade. Not only have the Robinson Famous Shows one of the finest caliopes in the world, but have been fortunate enough to secure the services of Signor La- mont, who is considered the pre mier of cahope players, and will certainly gladden th9 hearts of the children, and everybody as well, with up-to-date selections. Saturday, a horse being driven by Cyrus Hilton, a Confederate veteran who lived within four miles of Thomasville, ran away and threw him out, crushing his skull and causing his death. Little Elizabeth Stroud, nine-year-old daughter of Mrs. Irene Stroud, suffered a remarkable and painful accident in Raleigh Suu day when her foot slipped through an iron grated street drain in snob a way that her leg went through above the knee and it was impos sible to extrioate it until an iron worker had been sent for and the grating sawed in two. No ono seems able to explain how the knee ever passed through the grating in a way that there could be no pos sible way found to ma lage its withdrawal. The bone was not broken nor were there serious abrasions'. However, the child was fast in the grating nearly an hour. C. R Blanton of Hickory, was fatally injured and his brother, H. Q Blanton of Newton, had his right leg broken when a motor cycle on which they were riding collided with an automobile driv en by 0. M. MoCorkle of Newton, Saturday evening. The accident happened on the Newton road nearOama. The Messrs. Blan ton were ooming towards Hickory and Mr. MoCorkle and party were going to Newton, their home. It seems from reports that they met on a curve and both were taking the inside of the track On ac count of confusion both turned to the outside when the machines met. The motorcyole waB wreok ed and the automobile put out of running order. None of the party in tbe oar was injured to any ex tent. Both injured men were taken to the Riohaid Baker Hos pital in Hickory, where an exam ination revealed that C. R. Blan ton was suffering from a com pound concussion of the brain and died later in the afternoon. To l he Public. At times, I would have severe pains in my left side. The doctor was called In, and his treat ment relieved me for a while, but I was soon confined to my bed again. Last night about 8 o'clock the little town cf Robbinsville was once more in ex citement, when Sheriff Amnions walked into the town with the out law Ed.
