The best the voter can do in
regard to the proposed amend
ments to the State Constitution
is to vote against them. The
day of statesmanship has passed
and it is more than likely that
the amendments are nothing
more than thehidden scheme of
self-seekers and to keep these
fellows in bounds nothing will be
more effective than to refuse to
make changes in the constitution.
The waste of city funds in the
way of excavating an antiquated
hole, called a reservoir, for the
city's new watterj supply is
progressing and this hole is now
deep enough to tap; the under
ground water line. Just think
of this polluted underground
water becoming a part of the
sweet, fresh Waters from the
sewers of Winston-Salem. Aw

Junior Band for Salisbury.
A number of young men and
bdys of Salisbury have organ
ized an eighteen piece band.
They practice regularly at then
quarters on Chestnut Hill and,
when in public, wear handsome
uniforms presented by F. T.
,. Patterson, manager of the Mint
Cola Co., and caps donated by
V. Wallace & Sons. The officers
of this new band are:

Chicago, 111., Sept. 26. The
body of Allen U. Tomlinson,
salesman for and part owner of
the Tomlinson Chair Munufac
turing Company, High Point,
N. C, was found dead on the
Hoor of his lighted room in the
Hotel Brevport this afternoon.
There was a bullet wound in the
right temple. Near the body
was a revolver.
The old talk of moving the
Spencer depot to a point on
Salisbury Avenue at the end of
the car line on the railroad prop
erty in the heart of Spencer, has
been revived, but so far there is
nothing definite about the mat
ter.

Former Governor Joseph W
Polk of Missouri is expected to
make an address to the voter
in Salisbury sometime before
the election. Mr Folk is one of
the brainest men in the party,
but knows nothing about local
conditions.
A young man was before the
County Court las'. Thursday and
was found guilty of driving an
automobile recklessly, the fin
being $25, $15 of which was giv
en to a farmer whose horse was
frightened, his buggy broken
and his wife and children thrown
cut. An appeal was taken.
The street car company has
quite a force of men busy put
ting down cement between the
rails on its Council Street line.
The following committee, ap
pointed by Mayor Woodson, will
meet with other citizens of the
city in the old court house, to
morrow night, to arrange far
organized charity work for the
