Civitans Celebrate Ninth Anniversary Today CLUB HAS BEEN POTENT FACTOR IN CIVIC LIFE Excellent Program Has Been Arranged; Inter national President Will Deliver Address. Rounding out almost a decade of civic service in keeping with the in ternational motto, "Builders of Good Citizenship,” the Civitan club of Sal isbury is today celebrating its ninth birthday. The Civitans will meet for luncheon at the Yadkin Hotel today at 1 o’clock, and review the nine years in which their activities have resulted in notable achievements. Featured by an address by the inter national president, Harold Tschudi, of Baltimore, the program promises to be one of the most interesting in the club’s history. Briefly summarized, the program, as arranged by Dr. W. L. Tatum, past president of the club and also immed iate-past district governor, follows: J. S. Forbes, president, will preside. W. L. Address by Frank Kennedy, Char lotte, who assisted in the formation of the local club. Musical selections by Merritt’s or chestra. Vocal solo by Miss Emily Webb. Address by Harold Tschudi, inter national president. Since receiving its charter on Tues day evening, Sept. 5, 1922, the local Civitan club has been active in all civic affairs. Among its accomplish ments have been the establishment of a tourist camp, the awarding of cups and trophies to high school leaders in studies and athletics, and the giving of citizenship awards. Annual contri butions to charity have been given while numerous worthwhile civic en terprises have been sponsored by Ciy itan. He desires to develop, first of all in himself, through fraternal fellowship with kindred spirits and as sociations with them in common com monity tasks, and then in his fellow citizens, a lofty civic conscience and civic pride, a sense of the value and power of united constructive effort, and a vision of his city, not as it is, but as he wishes it to be and will work to make it. "To increase the efficiency of its members by demanding of them the highest ethical and moral standards in their respective vocations, and en couraging the adoption of the most improved methods and ideas in their business or professions. "To co-operate with other organi zations of similar purposes.” Oak Ridge Club To Collect Food For Destitute The Oak Ridge Comcunity Club met with Mrs. S. O. Bostian on Mon day, Sept. 28. Fourteen members were present and listened to a verv interest ing and instructive talk on "rings and ring making” by an efficient home demonstration agent, Miss Mamie Nell Whisnant. After the business meeting and demonstration, the members were served delicious ice cream and wafers by the hostess and her daughter, Miss Eva Bostian. The club will hold its next regular meeting with Mrs. J. F. Bostian, on Monday, Oct. 26, when each member is requested to bring one or more cans of foodstuff to be turned over to the welfare associations for later distribu tion to the needy. Any other contri butions the members feel able to make will be gladly received and turned ov er to the proper authorities.
