BOOZE CASES ARE J! N FEATURED IN COUNTY COURT Last week’s criminal docket in the Rowan County Court was again small, there being only twenty-four defend ants before the Court. According to County Prosecutor, J. Allen Dunn, there has been fewer cases before the court during December than in any other month during the year. The docket for the week contained the following cases and judgments: C. A. Dry, non-support, jud,.:.-r,t cont. 1-15-32. Jimmie Davis, drunk, $L00 and costs. Grimes Martin, drunk, costs. Collis Haygood, drunk $10.00 and costs. Joseph Henderson, assault with deadly weapon, cont. 1-5-32. Hobert McKenney, assault with deadly weapon, cont. 1-5-32. B. F. Davis, carrying concealed Weapon, 60 days on roads or $50.00. Willie Brown and Tom Seymore, larceny and receiving; Brown 5 months on roads oi $100.00 fine; Seymore 3 1-2 months or $60.00. Willie Thompson, drunk, costs. Leroy Whitaker, alias Neeley, alias Jake Poe, violation prohibition laws, 60 days or $25.00. Charles B. Smith, larceny and re ceiving, 7 months on roads. H. C. Hartness, assault on female, costs; non-support, on pavment costs, judgment continued for 2 years upon defendant supporting wife and child. Nathaniel Cox, forcible trespass, 12 months on roads. Glenn Bolt, violating prohibition laws, 60 days or $60.00. Frank Anderson, possession, 60 days or $25.00. George Owens, driving drunk, 30 days in workhouse or $50.00, and prohibited from driving car for 90 days. Milliard Thompson, driving drunk, 30 days in workhouse or $50.00 and costs and prohibited from driving car for 90 days. George Lee Shade, possession, 60 days or $15.00. Harry Kenley, drunk, 30 days in workhouse; assault, 60 days on roads; sentences to run concurrently. Roas Greer, assault with deadly weapon, 30 days. Charlie Dalton, speeding, costs. B. H. Rose, violation motor laws, $25.00 fine. ISSUES WARNING AGAINST FIRES A warning to citizens against the use of cheap or unapproved electric lighting systems ■ for illuminating Christmas trees in homes during the holiday season was issued yesterday by E. D. Boggs, electrical inspector of East Spencer. Mr. Boggs has a list of the ap proved sets and will be glad to furnish this information upon request. Mr. Boggs can be reached at telephone No. 1146-J. NEW AUTO TAGS NOW ON SALE The 1932 auto license plates went on sale December 15, and will con tinue on sale until January 1. The style will change to a mode of black and yellow instead of yellow on black. It is legal to place the new tags in use as soon as they are purchased and it is illegal to use the 1931 tags after midnight December 31. Eight Police Officers Go To Federal Prison Eight former members of the Phoe nix City, Ala., police department, in cluding J. M. Blair, former chief, havt been sentenced to Federal prisons for conspiracy to violate the national pro hibition laws. The officers were among J 8 persons indicted in the conspiracy which the government charged permitted move ment of thousands of gallons of liq uor into Phoenix City under police protection. Of the 58, 12 were convicted by a Jury. 16 entered pleas of guilty, 26 were acquitted, two had their cases nolle pressed and two yet face trial. The verdicts were returned and sen tences pronounced to two years in the Federal penitentiary at Atlanta and fined $1,000; Jess Green, Judge L. Johnson, G. Berry Pittman, all for mer patrolmen, were gi^en fifteen months each in Atlanta; former Pat rolmen Huel A. White and William E. Cook, were sentenced to a year ind a day at the Chillicothe, O., Fed eral prison and Stewart McCollister was given a suspended sentence of two years in Chillicothe.
