Builders Study $3,000,000Financing Plan OFFER ADVANCES ON PAPERS HELD BY LUMBER FIRMS Proposition Will Be Sub mitted To Carolina Re tail Dealers Association In Near Future For Ac ceptance, A plan whereby a southern financ ing corporation will advance Carolina lumber and huilding material dealers money up to $3,000,000 on their cus tomers’ paper has been submitted and will probably be accepted by the Car olina Retail Lumber Dealers’ associa tion, Victor W. Wheeler, executive secretary ui me Doay, announced. A meeting of the board of directors will be held within the next two weeks to consider this proposal and take up other activities planned for the organ ization in the coming year. While finance corporations have taken over automobile paper, furniture paper, and other notes, the plan to take over paper for lumber dealers and building material men in the Carolin as is something new, he said. If directors of the organization de cide to accept the proposal, there should be a decided increase in this business in the two states, he declar ed. The various activities outlined for the new year include putting the as sociation in a stronger financial posi tion, Mr. Wheeler said. Another ma jor activity will be the stressing of de velopment of district groups with the idea that more beneficial work can be done in smaller groups. With the de velopment of these groups, one-day meetings will be held in each quarter, and it is expected that more can be ac complished than has been possible in the past. The Post Officers Conference will be held in Winston-Salem, February 28 th and 29 th. At that time Henry Stevens, North Carolina’s own National Commander, will be present, and will probably have a message to deliver to assembled Leg ionnaires that will inspire them to greater efforts in the affairs of the Legion. In addition there will be Hen ry Bourne, Department Commander, Jim Caldwell, Department Adjutant, and many other distinguished Legion naires from the state and nation. However, do not be misled by the name Post Officers Conference, as any Legionnaire is expected to attend and will be welcomed by the officials gathered there. This conference is held yearly to further the interests of the Legion, and to discuss ways and means to make the Legion a more powerful factor in veterans affairs. No Legion naire should remain away if it is at all possible for him to attend, this get-to gether is second only in importance to the State Convention, and is annually attended by many hundreds of men who have the welfare of the Legion and ex-service men at heart. Prepare to go and attend the various confer ences, cast your vote and voice so that the Department Officers may know the wishes of the state organization. At this conference will be launched matters that are of state-wide import ance to the Legion, and more especial ly to those of Salisbury and Rowan county, Salisbury, China Grove and neighboring posts should have a large attendance, we expect you, we want you. At the regular February meeting of the Samuel C. Hart Post, members and visitors attending staged an old time get-to-gether meeting, the occasion was one well enjoyed by everyone there, the Winston-Salem conference will be such another on a larger scale. The Lance Jack attended the last such conference in Winston and if memory serves right it was some occasion. The present Judge Oglesby, then plain John Oglesby of Concord, paid to Miss Alice Gray a tribute that brought tears to the eyes of that lovely lady, in fact he waxed so eloquent that he almost demanded that we repudiate Asheville as a Convention City, and make our permanent home in Miss Alice’s city. From the Legion’s stand point that possibly would be fine, but it would be rather wearing on the nerves of more permanent citizens of Winston-Salem we venture to assert. Those who can make arrangements to be in Winston-Salem Sunday, Feb ruary 28 th, will be well repaid, those who can only come on Monday will find_their time well spent. The Robert E. Lee Hotel will be Conference head quarters, join us there, you will be welcomed and made to feel at home. The Lance Corporal. CRESS GRANGE Uncle Caleb Bassinger is some better at this time.
