Thinks Colorful Pajamas
Will Soothe Insane Minds
Paul Poiret, author-dressmaker, hav
ing created gorgeous costumes for
some of the most celebrated and con
spicuous women of the entire world,
now has been called into consultation
by a physician to design pajamas for
lunatics.
On behalf of his mental patients,
Dr. Houlouse, who long ha.', believed
that neurasthenics must not be seclud
ed in somber rooms with bare, dark
walls, is of the opinion that bright and
original pajamas would make the world
seem rosier to them.
Dr. Toulouse already has had ex
cellent results with rose and blue col
or schemes in room and wall decora
tions, and has found that gaudy friezes
have brought calm and serenity to
many of his worst patients.
The progressive doctor would now
remove all traces of gloom from the
uniform of the patients, and has sug
gested to the master of haute couture
that "something in a jazz design, or
roses of heroic size, or nursery pic
ture prints might go well and please
the patients.”
Poiret long has been an admirer of
the pajama and is agreed with the doc
tor that this medium is the most ac
ceptable, nor does he deny the right
to a mode of their own for persons not
Materials as well as colors will as
sume importance in the new business
of dressing the insane, as some patients
have a preference for the "feel” of
silk, chiffon and satin, while others
prefer the sensations attendant upon
the "touch” of burlap, canvas and
fur.
HE CARRIED POTATO IN
HIS POCKET FOR 40 YEARS
Newburgh’ N. Y.—to a potato
he has carried in his pocket for many
years, Aaron P. Ferguson attributes
his health and good fortune. He is
70. The potato- which is two and a
half inches long, has been carried bv
Ferguson for more than 40 years’ in
which time, he contends, he has not
been ill. He began carrying the po
tato, Ferguson sa d, in keeping with
a tradition that if a potato is carried
in the watch pocket the carrier will
never have rheumatism.

' BLONDES POSE AFTER
SENDING MAN TO JAIL
Chicago—John Beckner, 30’ was
fined $200 on charges of peeping
into the bedroom of Florence Rogers
and June Manning while they were
undressing.' He coulijn’t pay the
fine and went to jail.
"Just imagine the nerve of the
man!’’ declared Miss Rogers, a blonde
night club hostess.
"Why I was i$ever so embarrassed
in my life,” said Miss Manning, also
blonde. "There I was with just my
icanties on and there was that awful
man looking right in the window.’
Newspaper photographers were
much impressed.
"Would you mind posing for us,
just like you were when you caught
him peeping at you?” asked one.
The girls didn’t mind, so that night
for three cents, the price of a news
paper, any resident of Chicago could
buy a view of the bedroom scene
which Becker went to jail for daring
to gaze upon.
VICTIM OF AMNESIA
IS CURED BY SHOCK
El Paso, Texas—El Paso’s mystery
man has regained nis memory and
revealed that he is Otto Bartz.
Bartz’s memory returned when a
shock he received from an elevator
switch knocked him from a ladder.
When he recovered consciousness he
identified himself.
The mystery man was found Nov
ember 11 in the hills near here. He
was semi-conscious.
"I went to see a motion picture
show,’’ Bartd said. "Then the man
and woman who brought me here took
me to Juarez. We went to a place
where we walked down. It was light
ed dimly.
"That’s all I remember until af

MORE OR LESS TRUE
The only thing worse than getting
little things ready for a birl baby
and having the stork bring a boy is
having that pesky bird bring twin
boys.
There's always something to be
thankful for, and we’re glad when
women quit using lace for triming
they didn’t try to save the lace busi
ness by using it on men’s clothes.
It’s queer how the people who de
mand easy-riding cars and good
roads seem to go out of their way
.to make the matrimonial journey as
rough as possible.
The honeymoon is over when she
decides what the driver needs is help
in his driving instead of the hugging
she has been giving him.
No one is ever more fooled than
the young fellow who thinks, from
the ads, that wearing such little
things must mean that it doesn’t
cost much to keep a girl clothed and
his salary will be plenty big enough
To hear some women talk these
days would think washing their
hair was a bigger job than mother
had washing the family’s clothes.
The highest compliment any wife
can pay a husband is to say, if she
had it to do over again she’d still
rather take him than risk getting
something worse
We suppose the only thing most
women tune out on as quickly as
man does a crooner is a woman giv
ing a spiel on cooking.
POULTRY THRIVES BEST
WHEN GIVEN GREEN FEED
When green feed is added as a sup
plement to the regular poultry ration,
the birds grow better and lay more
eggs. All the vitamins essential for
growth and health can be made av
ailable if a variety of green feed is
used
"Legumes and the tender green
crops of the garden are all rich in
vitamins and food for poultry,” says
C. J. Maupin, poultry extension spe'
cialistoat State College. "Alfalfa,
clovers, lespedela, rape, soybeans,
lectuce, tender cabbage- collards,
kale and young oats, wheat, barly or
rye are some of the crops liked by
poultry and valuable to them in de
veloping growth and increasing
egg production. We have found that
young lettuce, has cured a run-down
condition in hens. Green alfalfa, fed
liberally, has been reported as check
ing the deaths of poultry due to poor
feeding. Where the birds are given
white corn, they need the food pro
perties found in legumes and other
green stuff.’
