Lee Opposes Federal Operation Of Shoals President-elect Roosevelt’s an nounced plans for government op eration of the Muscle Shoals power project are strongly opposed by Williams State Lee, president of the National Engineers council and former president of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers. "The more people that work for the government, the nearer we approach Socialism,” asserted Mr. Lee. "I cannot believe that this country is ready to go into So cialism; hence why should we be pursuing this policy? IT.e guatest factor in the development of A merica has been American initia tive—and certainly when the gov ernment goes out and competes with its citizens in business the great American initiative will be destroyed.” Mr. Lee made an engineering survey of the entire Muscle Shoals project more than 10 years ago. His report to the government at that time was that although nearly $50,000,000 had been spent, nricli of it unwisely, the plants would require much more work before they could be operated successful ly, and he urged that the govern ment not attempt operation. "Muscle Shoals has been a colos sal political and governmental blunder, but I fear even greiterj blunders during the next 10 y*.rs if the government persists in ex perimenting with operation of power plants,” said he. "If busi ness is in politics, every detail wil,! be the subject of terrific political harangue and investigation. It is time for the public to stop con tinuance of these terrific blunders. "If the varying tide of senti ment for political or public own ership in this country is based upon correct economic and business principles, the theory should be developed and proved, rather than hurried into existence by retalia tory legislation, an over-persua sive press, or communities that are rightly or wrongly disgruntled.” Women’s Ears Again In Style The ears have it. Both of them are being revealed in the new style of hair-diiessing required by the shallow-crowned' hats for spring, all of which are tilted over the eyes, sometimes straight, and also at an angle. L. B. Clement, just back from Paris, vice-president of one of the large cosmetic concerns in this country, stated that the profile is the thing and that hair arrange ment with the ears fully or parti ally disclosed is the really new note. "First we had the brow in full view whenever a woman’s face would stand it, and now the ears are being revealed to the world after a long period of retirement. If a woman has pretty ears, let her show them. It is the smart thing and the newest wrinkle. Partial disclosure of the ears is for those who may not be able to stand the strain of showing the ears naked and bare. For real style, however, the ears would show,” said Mr. Clement. "This fashion will mean make up for the ears to match the gener-1 al complexion and allow for pret-j ty lobes of seashell tint, made fam-j mis in song and story. A touch of rouge on the lobes will do the trick. "Lip make-up is a strong with smart Parisian, while rouge on the face is used sparingly. It is the slightest flush. "Eye make-up, including bross s, iids and lashes is very important to hat styles for the coming spring season. With the ears exposed in some part, and much hair at the back and sides the profile comes into prominence. So the eyes must be accentuated and their beauty brought out. All hardness and over-sopmstication are to be avoid ed studiously, however. It is beau ty, softness and clearness of the syes that is sought. "Older women may not use rouge unless to their liking, but lipstick and a good face powder ire absolutely essential to the old :r woman’s grooming. Lipstick that suits the skin will take away the purplish casts that lips ac quire as one grows older and which s never beautiful. These same ilder women may not care for eye jhade, but a little mascara brushed nto the brows and lashes will irighten them and add attractivc less to older eyes. "Heavy tinting of the nails is inly for the woman whose fingers ire slim and nails lovely, and vhose whole hand will bear the tlosest inspection from the stand irds of beauty. Natural tinting s better if the hands cannot stand fie test.” We are now ready to do your ob printing—Give us a call. Said a pastor, "I abandoned my prayer meeting long ago.” "How did your d^irch officers .ike that?” "Oh, they did not find it out for more than a year.” SALE OF PERSONAL PROPERTY Notice To: Al McGee, Owner: The above named, Al McGee, will take notice that the undersign ed, Central "One-Stop” Service Station will offer for sale at public auction to the highest bidder, or bidders, for cash, at the office, or garage, of Central "One-Stop” Service Station, on North Main Street, Salisbury, North Carolina, ;on Wednesday, the 8 th day of March, 1933, at 12 o’clock, noon, in order to satisfy mechanic’s lien and storage, in the sum of $69.90, the following described personal property, to-wit: Whippet Coach, Motor No. 3A-107151, Serial No. 103858, 1927 Model.
