Hudson of South River had the misfortune to have his house burned on Monday night. The loss is quite a heavy one. He and his wife were not at home at the time. Dr. Wheat, a distinguished Epis copal minister, died here today, age 85 years. He was the father of Mrs. F. E. Shober. Mr. M. B. Howell has bought the O’Neal house and lot. Mr. Henry Williams bought 60 bales of cotton at Rowan Mills yes terday for Messrs. Ross and Mc Cubbins. Meroney Bros, have sold their stock of goods to Littman & Lict enstein who will continue the busi ness at the same stand. Dr. W. B. Mears, a prominent citizen of Davidson county, is in the city. — Miss Betty Wrenn has returned home from Mocksville where she has been teaching school. Mrs. Chas. Price and son ate on a visit to Florida. Real estate sales reported by Mr. J. M. Ffayden. One small tract sold to Mr. C. A. Rice for manufactur ing purposes located on the Ashen back land. Four houses and lots on Lee St. to Mr. Thomas Kerns. One house and lot to J. A. Boy den near the corner of Lee and Franklin. Four acres on South East side of R. & D. railroad on which the Sapona Cotton Mills are to be erected. One house and lot on Innes St. to E. G. Lowe, also two vacant lots on old Mocksville road. The Tobacco Mfg. plant of Johnson & Ramsey with its entire contents was destroyed by fire on Tuesday night, loss eight thousand dollars. Mr. Odell, president of the Sal isbury Cotton Mill, will be here in a few days to select a location for the mill. Mr. J. B. Lanier has bought of J. M. Hayden four lots on Caldwell St. which he will improve. Buried Gold Reaches Bank In Old Hat Somerset, Pa.—A man walked into a bank here carrying an old hat, which appeared to be filled with something heavy. He laid his load on the counter and said: "I want to deposit some mon ey.” The contents of the hat were emptied and when the banker had finished counting he had piles of gold coins aggregating over $2, 000 in value. The gold pieces had lost their polish as if they had been buried in the ground. The man admitted that the money had been buried1 in the ground under his home for seven years.
