For severe periodic pains, cramps

so many women have praised, lor
over lllty years. Mrs. Dora Dun

“Several years ago, when I was
teaching school, I got run-down
and suffered intensely during men

and was all right again. After I
was married, when I felt all run
down and was irregular, I always
resorted to Cardul and was helped.”

Bootleg Trade
Hard Pressed
Caroli”? Dry Unit Mate's Weekly
Record of 36 Stills and 37
A^ests.
Whiskey may flow freely in a
majority of the states of the
Union, but bootleggers in the two
Carolinas are faring poorly as the
boys under T. Ed Patton, investi
gator in charge of the alcoholic
tax unit of the Carolinas strive
to earn their pay and make it
hard for the dispensers of illegal
booze.
Last month the investigators of
the two states made one of the
best weekly records ever made in
the unit and far surpassed any
weekly havoc played among boot
leggers in many months.
lmrty-stx stms were raiaea ana
destroyed during the week until
noon Saturday. Almost 40,000
gallons of mash, was destroyed,
and 487 gallons of non-tax paid
whiskey was seized for Uncle Sam.
Six automobiles were confiscat
ed during the week. In addition,
one truck was taken in by the in
vestigators and the total value of
propery seized was $1,100.
Twenty-seven arrests were made,
and 18 cases were} prepared foi
presentation in federal court.
| In'|esti$ator-in-Chfrge Patton
expressed kedn appreciation of the
efforts of his investigators. "The
week’s record was reallyy remark
able in view of the scarcity of
equipment, and such a record coulei
be made only by willilngness ol
the boys to work day and night
for law enforcement,” Mr. Patton
declared.
He added that sheriff’s anc
other county officers of botl
states are continuing to show a fine
spirit of co-opetjatiort, which is
partly responsible for the excelllent
[record that has been made.
Car Sales Less In
| May Than April
—
Raleigji—New autompbile and
truck sales in North Carolina
were some fewer in May than in
April, but still far ahe)td of May
last year, while the sales for the
first five months of this ydar in
both are still considerably more
than twice! the sales for the same
period last yetar, the report of Di
rector L. S. Harris, of the motor
vehicle bureau, shows.
The five months sales reached
15,394 passenger cars and 4,146
trucks, as compared with 7,250
cars and 1,73 5 trucks for the cor
responding five months of 1933.
The May sales of new cars was
3,890 and trucks 871, far abovje
jthe 2.147 cars and 510 trucks sold
in May, 1933, but less than the
high figurd of 4,950 cars and 1,
1 4 trucks purchased new in
April, 1934.
The production of crops is limit

N. C. Gas Tax
Yield Higher
Net collections of motorists’ gas
tax in North Carolina showed a
smaller rate of increase from 1932
to 1933 than the figures for the
nation, according to a report is
sued by the American Petroleum
institute.
While the national figures show
ed a jump from $5 80,000,000 to
$700,000,000 or about 20 per
cent, North Carolina’s total net
collections increased only from
$13,903,646 to $14,769,602 or less
than 10 pejr cent.
Although only one state raised
its rate in 1933 over the previous
year, 29 states rtjported increased
revenue from the gasoline tax, the
report declares, despite the fact
that the total amount of gasoline
consumed in the country decreased
last year.
