Sheffield Tenders Resignation Charles Ar-Sheffield, an assistant director of the State College extern sion services since January 1, 1929, has tendered his resignation in order to accept a position in Washington as director of county farm agent work in the South. The resignation will become ef fective about the middle of March, when he will assume his new duties in the regional office of the exten sion service in the Department of Agriculture. During the past six years, Mr. Sheffield has been recognized as one of the outstanding officials of the North Carolina extension service. He is known intimately by thou sands of farmers over the State. Shortly after the inauguration of the Agriculture Adjustment Ad ministration in 1933, Mr. Sheffield was placed in charge of the cotton program for this State. He was also called upon to administer the Bankhead act. His work in organizing the live at-home campaign and in directing the emegency relief gardening pro gram for North Carolina was com mended by his superiors for its ef fectiveness and efficiency. Since 1932, he has been in charge of Farm and Home Week, the an nual convention of farm men and women held at State College each summer. In 1929 he made a state-wide study of the agricultural situation in North Carolina which was re cognized as outstanding by the United States Department of Agri culture and other agricultural authorities. Mr. Sheffield graduated frota State College in 1920, and received his masters degree in 1930. In 1932 he received his MS degree in agri cultural economics and farm man agement. After graduation, he went to the Churchland High School in David son County as an agricultural tea cher, and was later appointed county farm agent for that county, where he remained until his pro motion to Raleigh. | Oldest N.
