That would at least keep them from knocking the trains off the track. b Unique Display In Liquor Store Emphasizes Bottle Breaking Law j MO, this is not confiscating the evidence. It is simply a novel plan * ’ recently adopted in a number of Ohio State Liquor Stores, whereby purchasers of liquor have the present federal law requiring all empty liquor bottles to be broken, dramatically called to their attention. Sales slips, order blanks, wrapping paper and tape printed so as to call further attention to the law have also been suggested as effec tive means of aiding enforcement of the bottle breaking regulation. It will include outstanding students in all the prominent colleges and universities in America. ' n. rectus ivanaan, editor oi me book, recently wrote to the presi dent of the student body, Wilson Cheek, asking for names of out standing students. The ppesidetat was advised that the proportion nominated should not exceed 1 °/c of the student body. After dis cussion with the deans and faculty, the following were nominated for their outstanding qualities and their accomplishments: } Carrie Bell Strayhorn Rachael Smith Harold Wolfinger A. Wilson Cheek. The purpose of "Who’s Who” is to serve as an incentive to students, as a means of compensation to ac complished students, as a business and social recommendation, and as a standard of membership to honor ary societies. The qualities upon which stu dents are nominated include char acter, scholarship, leadership, and possibility of future usefulness. The early edition received the endorse ment of the National Student Fed eration of America and of the Southern Intercollegiate Associa tion of Student Government for Women. Students and deans have ilso approved of this publication tnd its aims. Those chosen from Catawba are eertainly worthy of the honor, for throughout their college years they have been fine students, an ex imple to incoming freshmen, and i real help to the upbuilding of the school. _—Buy in Salisbury— Refreshing Relief When You Need a Laxative ] Because of the refreshing relief It las brought them, thousands of men md women, who could ifford much more ex pensive laxatives, uss 31ack-Draught when leeded. BLACK-DRAUGHT Debate Council Sets Dec. 9 As Date For Tryouts Pi Kappa Delta Query Will Be Argued Debates Being Scheduled With Out-of-State Teams At a meeting of the debate council on Tuesday, Nov. 12, the date and rules to govern debating tryouts fqr the 1936 season were decided. The question for debate s the Pi Kappa Delta query: Re solved, that Congress should have power to override, by a two-thirds majority vote, decisions of the Su preme Court declaring acts passed by Congress unconstitutional. Tryouts for both men’s and women’s varsity debating squads will be held on Monday evening, December 9, in the college audi torium before a committee of three faculty judges. Each person is to present a five minute speech which he has developed upon one point on either side of the question. There is a fine opportunity this year for freshmen and Others inter ested in debating to secure a place on the varsity squad. Two memb ers of last year’s team have been lost through graduation, while a third, Paul Strauch, has announced that he is too busy this year to compete. Harold Wolfinger, var sity debater for the past three sea sons, is the only experienced mem ber who will seek to hold a berth Rachael Smith and Neely Me Cubbins, both of several years’ ex perience, will form a nucleus foi the girls’ teams. And with th< aid of Professor Lane, coach oJ debating, Catawba should hav< strong teams to uphold the recon of the college. Already Saint Francis College of Penna., has scheduled a debati here the first week in Feb., and Erskine will debate here on its tour through North Carolina.
