PROSPECTIH OP THE DAILY JOlltNAL.
T Subscribers this day commence the publication la the
town of WilmicgtoB. wf a daily evenicg paper by tbo abort
title. It will bo issued every day (Sundays excepted) after
the arrival of the mails, so as to give the very latest intelli
gence from all quarter. The publishers will also avail
themselres of every additional facility witkia their reach for
the collection of news.
Particular attention will be paid to the Commercial depart
ment of the paper, and full and accurate reports give of the
state of our o wa markets, as well as of all others having aay
influence upon the trade of this place or section.
The growing importance of Wilmington, and tbo increas
ing wants of tht mercantile community at large, bare seemed
to call for ami warrant tho commencement cf this enterprise.
North Carolina is almost, if out quite, the ouly Stats ia the
Union in whith no daily paper is published. California, which
bat yesterday was a wilderness, has a fUarUhing daily press,
while North Carolina bas not ono within her borders.
Such should not be the case. We believe that we can fairly
appeal to the Stats pride, as well as to the interests of our
fcllow-citisens, to sustain us in our present effort to remove
this reproach.
It is scarcely necessary to refer to the politics of The Dai
ly JoriMAL, " as it will be under the same editorial manage
ment with the Weekly " Wiuiimotos Joins al, ' which pa
per will eontinno to bo published on tho same terms as for
merly, deriving, it is to be hoped, additional interest from
the use of the more eiten led facilities which the publication
of a daily must render necesssry. In polities it will support
the doctrines of the Democratic party ; yet, while firm an
decided in the assertion and maintenance of its own opinions,
will be moderate and respectfur'ajsards those who may differ
from it.
Terms. The rrice of "Tin Daily Journal" will be six
dollars per annistT, invariably in advanct: The heavy out
lay attendant upon the publication of such a taicr will ren
der a strict adherence to this rule tmprratirt. tri-weckly
paper will also be iurd at four dollars per annum, should a
sufficient number of tri-weckly subscribers be obtained.
Tlie ' Daily Joi-riai. " is now before tht public. Thels
bor and outlay which its isiuc entails is very considerable, ami
will requite a generous support to save us from heavy loss
In starting it, we have relied upon that liberality which
has heretofore been extended to us, and have launched our
bark, determined that it shall sink or swim upon its own
merits. FI IION It PR. ICE.
