On motion of Mr. Malone, the rules were suspended and the bill to authorize the KTtt' ooantiea of the Stat, to take itock in R. f road Companies was taken up. The Clerk read the bilL The Teas and nays were called upon the bill on its third reading and retailed in a rote of jeua 45, nays Id, (no quorum.) On motion of Mr. Malone, a oall of the - House was had and 72 members were as oertaioed to be present. The bill just under consideration tbeu passed its final readiDg by a vote of yens 48, nays 14. By J. 8. Leary, colored : A bill to u thorize the Commissioners of Cumberland to levy a speoial tax. Lies over. . On motion of Mr. Oreen, the rules wereJ suspended, and toe bin to remove obstruc tion to passage of fish np the Peedee and and Yadkin Rivers was taken np and passed its several readings. : On motion of Mr. Moore, of Chowan, the rnles were suspended and the bill to - lay off the Homestead and personal prop erty exemption was taken np and dis cussed daring the remainder of the session. On motion, the Honse adjourned nntil to-morrow morning at 10 o'clock. . . SENATE. Owing to the indisposition of our repor ter w. have no Senate report to-day. We - lean, however, there was not much busi ness of an interebting nature transacted. The sohool bill occupied nearly the whole - session in discussion, without arriving at anything definite. ft is understood, however, that Sonator Wynne made a strong speech in reference to the Seoretary of State, whioli resultt d in the appointment of a committee to in Testigate the affairs of that office. ' HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. Tcksdat, March 2, 18C9. - On motion of Mr. Malone, the rules were suspended, and the bill to authorize the .. Pablio Treasurer to supply temporary de- fleiencies in the Treasury was taken up. This bill allows the Treasurer to borrow money to meet the interest due Jan. 1st, 1869, and April 1st, 1869, at rates not ex ceeding 8 per oent., pledging as collateral ' for the payment of the same, the monies received from the tax list of 1869. The yeas and nays being ordered, the bill passed its seoond reading by a vote of .yeas 64. nays 10. By Mr. Burnett : A bill supplementary to the bill incorporating the Oreen Swamp Company. Bill placed pon the Calen dar. . . Mr. Seymour, from the committee on the Judiciary, reported favorably (with amendment) upon the bill concerning the settlement of the estates of deoeased per sons. On motion of Mr. 3., the rales were sus pended and the bill just reported upon was taken up, passed its seoond reading, order ed to be printed and made special order for Wednesday at 11 o'clock. . On motion of Mr. Barnett, the rnles were suspended and the bill to enable the Chat ham Railroad Company Ito complete its Road, was taken up. Pending the discussion upon the bill the . special order was annonnoed, to-wit : The bill laying off the homestead and personal property exemption. The question recurred upon an amend ment offered by Mr. Welch, to the 16th section whioh was adopted. The discussion on the bill consumed the remainder of the time, and pending the adoption of an amendment offered by Mr. Pou, to be known as sections 27 and 28, the farther consideration of the bill was postponed nntil 7i o'clock this evening, j Mr. Hinnant, from the Committee on Enrolment, reported the following bills as being correctly enrolled, to-wit : - BUI to incorporate the Littleton Manu facturing Company. Bill to authorise elections in certain towns in the State. Bill to be entitled an act to incorporate the New Hanover Agricultural Society. Bill to enable the city of Raleigh to bor row money for certain purposes. A message was reoeived from the Gover nor, transmitting the report of W. C. Kerr, State Geologist. Ordered to be printed.
