May they live to seo the lull fruiliou of their iuitia'ory act in the complete overthrow of Radicalism and tho restoration of our dear old Stato , to her merited position among hor sisters. To Colored voters of this county wo can say they are far ahead of thoir iriends elsewhere. ' Those who have labored so earnestly and witb so much honor to thumKolvos, have tliuir rewards, not in oHloos, but in seeing the true priufiplo of government tritiiu. But, Mr. Editor, our work is not done, our taxes are too high, and will be so if we continue to support our present expent-ive - form of State and county government a no system may tie good, cut too expen- - eive for a sparoely settled country to main tain. . Our School systora is onerous-we have too many oiBoes, State and oounty sala ries and feea are too high. Till then, 1 am yours. , y ------ Boon. NORTH CAROLINA. what rmm riutas say. From the Boston Poet. If ever tho Post's cockers! had reason to crow loudly and lustily it was, assuredly, upon receiving the news from north usro lina. The Conservative vietory there last week is one or (tie most bnuiant and im portant over bulletined. It was a gallant and successful marshalling of strength, a sort of masked battery, that held its fire nntil the right moment and then blazed all along the line, doing its work with a tbor oughness that leaves the result entirely unequivocal. -Tho record of triumphs is full. Congressional districts, United States benator, legislature, Attorney-UenenU ship all aro secured. Hardly a solitary vantage spot is shown as the fruit of tho lloldenism wbioh has defamod. outraged and humiliated the Btate. The torturing of citizens, the intimidation by means of negro troops, t be annihilation of private rights, the money retjaenoe and appliances of every kind used to extort a diUereot po litical sentiment have Droved ineffectual. The bloody resistance so ardently desired was not manifested. Feaoe and safety, aave the arbitrary and violent acta of the constituted authorities tnemaolvea, have been everywhere maintained, Bat there has not been inaction alt this time. Con eervatiTtfl folly understood the plan of proceeding and adhered te it, although making no outward tfeaaoaetreiioai that could possibly justify Iboorpwai ve Orant Holdea torsive Measure.- The day of election, however, found a force united, ready and demonstrative enough to more bea satisfy thoir antagonists . - There is a FroviJooee that evernles the most atrocious of the Radical designs to the country's salvation. They believed they had the "twist" oh Korth Carolina this time. Qolden, with his eegro militia, Grant backing him with United BUtea troops, the judiciary trampled under foot, and whole eoantiee declared i n a elate of open rebellion; bot the free people of the brave old 8tate revolted a eoeh erisses against liberty, aad tbej1 Vf te oreTwb"!ra-' ed these wicked BJaetisaUcra ia m.z. The triumph is rcassnrioff, because it Indicates with truth the real temper of the Southern poo pie and reveals their intentions. If there is any revolt at all in IS'ortli Caro lina, it is Holden that conducts it, with Kirk for this lieutenant. i i From the Baltimore Hon A WAimiNO. SOB ENOCOn, ' The Washington Chronicle derives a "lensoa" from tho Radical defeat in North Carolina, whioh it thinks "oueht to be a warning" toils party, a a opinion' with whioh moot people will agroe, though not tnthasenso indicated bv the Chroniolo. It oompliments Governor Ilolden and his triond for "fkbting a brave battle, M which it Is possible may mean fighting aaainst croat -odds, a fact whioh would seem to be demonstrated by the heavy Consnrvativd majorities tlut were devel oped at the polls.- It may bo a recognized principle of tho Chronicle's party taotius to tight battles against poiilieal major hub with mnHkets, torture and a reii;n of terror generally, and to persiut in suoli u course ot proccding in tbit enljghteueU ago and oouutry may ovinoe a degree of moral pluclt, but docs not seoni altogetuor re publican. The Chroniele says, and itali cises the statement, ''we have lost North Carolina alone because the liepublicans thero have not been cordially united." It is to the credit of the Kenubliesus that thoy could not nnitu upou such a platform ss that inangm a(od by Governor Ilolden ; a gniiows pmirorm : a piatiorin et orute force and despotism in which wholo coun ties of Ninth Carolina were Dioiionncett in insurrection, martial law CNtablislted, un Olleuding citizens arrettd un J imprLs jned, andhabess corpus saspendod for noeuf-j uoient reaion that is aiiparout, unless it lie tliat au important eleotion was at uanit. Thero is oertalnly a "lesson" in tho want of union among the Republicans of North Carolina under such circumstances which the leaders of reckless Radicalism m.y study to advantage. It is that such pro ceedings as thoso of Governor Ilolden aro revolting to the moral seus) of conscien tious men of all parties, and that they are inexpedient as well as wrong ; for while they are disgusting to good men on one side, thoy do not terrify a bravo popplo on tho otbor, but, on the contrary, inspire them to a more onorgotio though peaoeful maintenance of their political opinions and their rights as citizens. Any party which iu this country and ago expects .to remain united, must not employ physical foree to perpetuate poutioal domination From the Nsw York Jonnul of Commerce The plot to terrorizo North Carolina tits mlsoarried. Not all Governor Qoldon's militia kept on a war footing it is said, at a cost of $100,000 a mouth nor tue Uoi ted Htotes regulars kindly loaned to him by President Grant, hns served tho base purpose intonded. In parts of the State whci'o the troops wore strongest the rsdi osls may not havo lost ground, but in other poitions where bayonets did not glisten so formidably about tho polls the meagre accounts thus far received in dioato decided Conservative gaina. Wo beg to say to (to vernor . Uokleu and President Urant that thov are behind the age and in tho wrong part of the world to oorry ont the sahemo contemplated by the one and abet ted by the other. Tired of flghtingand do sirions of buying peaoe on almost any terms, there are people in North Carolina who may be oowod by a display ol cold steel ; and had Governor Ilolden possessed an army of a hundrod thousand men, distributed all over the State, wo might have had a different rosultto record. But what might have been locally gained for radicalism in the old North Htste would have been more than lost in other States, whose citizons have been looking on at the ilolden out rages and feeling their gorge rise within tlii rn at the SDCotaole. As the cne now stands, radicalism has loat by its abuse of power iu North Carolina, and elsewhere, too, it has icmoted upon itsolf a serious injury. If the Conservatives have made tho gains roported against suoh odds, we may be snre that men of the same party in other Southern States will take heart aid do ennally woll at their next elections while all through tho North the opposition will derive courage and strength from the North Carolina victory. Happily for hu manity, tho struggle in North Carolina, owing to tho pacific disposition of the Con sorratives, passed on with little or no bloodshed. lint it will not be safo for the radical governors of other States to repeat the dangerous experiment of Ilolden: and ve cannot believe that President Grant will blonder into aseoond disastrous ex hibition of his partisan feelings ia the same way. And now a woe d to the Kortb Carolina oonservativea if they have eleoted a maior ity of the Legislature or of Congressmen or of both. Their triumph will be a great one, but tney enouid wear thoir honors meekly. They should take groat pains by their rtemeanor to refute radical assertions of their akindnees to tho and their generally lawless eonduot. Such alle gations wul conunno to be made against whatever they may do ; but u not su baton tiated by fonts, as tbey have not been hith erto, they wilt not be believed by persons oapauie or readme newspapers and learn ing the truth for themselves If in any oorner ef the State there is a gang of men colling themselves the Ku Klux Klon, of which we havedobts, the' ooaservatives should suppress it at all hazards. Every where they should appear as the friends of law and order, as contrasted with the lawlessness and anarohy which Gov erhof " Ilolden has enoouraged. - If torn are negroes voting witb the Bali eala ; there are also negroes voting with the Conservatives ; and it is clearly for the interest of the latter party to win over colored adherents trom the ranks of its op ponents by every measure of kindness and conciliation. Not the negroes, but the Radical white carpet-baggers are ohiefly to blame for the North Carolina outragm It is only upon the canbefrgen that punishment should be indicted, and thtt tot violently, bat by depriving them, ry the legitimate exercise of party power, of all share in the spoils of the local govern ment, which, ia all they are after. Tbey should be brought to a better mind - or frozen out of the Btate, and driven else where, to be kert constantly moving by other peaceful risings el the peopte ia their asajesty, emtil they give p their cnliar voeetioa.'
