' . toa, mongn every preparation was r-- afor removing the furniture and CRlCirYItU CHRIirt HE I. It- Kearly two thousand years ago, Jesus of Kuareth, the heal aud founder of th Christian religWu, was crucified oo the Mount of Calvary. His death gave Us to other and tb revealed religion he bequeathed to th world has piareed to every quarter of th habitabl glob until in this day and generation Christianity and en lightenment are aynonymoos terms. Th Messiah preached many things, among other the sublime virtu of chanty and Hi coming was heralded by th song of angel "Peaoe on earth, good will to men. How fruitless was hts death, for some at leaatot those in this country 'who call them selves professing Christiana and whoee alorifving of Ood consists in magnifying- themselves, is mad evident by the following eooonnt of the proceeding at a so called religious meeting held under the shadow of Plymouth Book. The participant in this meeting were not politicians, they were preachers ; they were not even of the rank and file of the Church, bat they were among the leaders of those (verily "blind leaders of the blind I") who sit under their ministration week after week and look np to them a th expounders th word of God that word whioh ey " love your enemies," and again "resist not evil," and still sgsin that impressive command which has echoed through the world, "judge not that ve be not judged." Thev are of the ssme religious faith, of the ssme na tionality many of them united by ties of kindred, read from the same Bible and preach the ssme truths, even sing the same songs of pause, to the self they denouuoe, end for whose de- seme God, as those in the South whom traction tbev call for th sword and the torch. They know not ins of that charity which He tausht : ef that love whioh the be loved disciple makes the one glowiu "8 theme of hi discourse to the Cbureh he who "leaned on Jesus' bosom " at the Last Sapper ; that long suffering and forbearance towards one another ; that kindness, that meekness of heart, that lowliness of spirit taught by Him as essential virtues and cardinal points In His followers. They are the Ohrist- killers of the nineteenth century, and as " the Son of Msn was lifted up in the wilderness,' so do they cnioify the religion loft by Him as a most precious heritage to the world. Is it a wonder that th Methodist Epia eopal Chnroh South, oomposed of Christian" men and women who are taught and who live np to their teachings to "prsy for them whioh despitefully use you and perse out you" will not enter into an alii anoe with such men a these f men who "use their religion to eloak their maliciousness" and who continually "crucify the Bon of God afresh and put him to an open shame?" But let ell read for themselves : At the regular weekly meeting of .1 ifc . .T A 1 T 1 me jueinouis preaonnrs oi wjtou and vicinity, held at Wesleyan Hall, Tuesday afternoon, the recent diffi culties in Louisiana were discussed at considerable length. Bishop Bowman gave an aooonnt or wnat ne Knew about the treatment of the colored people of Louisiana, narrating a num ber of instances in which they had been shamefully abused, and deprived of lue even, uy invitation, itev. a. L Ives, of Mew Xerk, addressed the meeting. lie sua we are undertaking now to coax the devil out of the miserable whelps down South, when nothing but tryonnine and oannon ought to be used. He rather agreed with Phil Sheridan' declaration during the war. "that if h had owned hell and Texas ha would lease out Texas and live in the other place." Dr. Ives adminis tered a oastigation to th ohuroh, de- olariiig that there is not paper in ths Methodist Ohuroh that dare disoua the civil right bill, and asks that it be enforced. He said be believed the meanest rascals in the South were iu the Methodist Ohuroh South.' He de clared himself a Radical of the strong est kind, and he said he believed the more he hated the rebel of the South tho more he loved God. He declared he believed that the spirit now rampant in the South has got to be crashed ont by another war, and he longed for the appearance of some colored man able to become a leader among hi people, wielding the word and toroh. He said the Bish op ought to com out publicly and declare the whole truth about the treatment of the colored people in the South, but he didnt believe they would. If they did he knew they couldn't return to the South, for if they did they would be hung ; but he intimated that it was no worse to hang a Bishop than a minister, but he sug gested it it was done it might wake np the people quicker than anything else. He thought the Bishop were too tender-hearted, and they reminded him of the man who wanted to out off hi dogs tail, but was too tender hearted to ont it off where it ought to oe, so ne out it on an inch at a time. The speech of Mr. Ives was received with freauent demonstrations of sd proval; some of his most radioal utter ances exciting considerable applause, mingied witu langbter. Wendell Phillips write long letter to th Boston A dvertiaer protesting against the passage of any "Civil Bights" bill that does not insist upon mixed school. He says the Southern White will not destroy their oommon ohool system if suoh bill is passed. calls their remonstrances "bullying muster, ana give as a reason why they can't do it, that they haven't power.i, "Six or seven thousand negro voter are , not easily thwarted," he dd. All of whioh prove that Wen dell ti still the same old ass he always wa. Let him and hi pass such bill and see whether or not we have the i he na.Au lock. Tbe A ..th,t!!s us thst the lower hoftse of the National Congress is stilt in a dal lock with no present positive promise of an adjustment Tb difficulty seems to be a war of th majority on the minority, and the attempt to deprive them of the benefit of debate, which ia now unlimited, under th regular rule of the House. The movement is an alarming one, and is aimed direotly at Leuieia&e and at the passage, this aessioa, of Butler' pet - sobme of iniquity, th infamous Civil Bight bill The ostensible object of theresoln tion, however, which was introduced last Monday, is to prevent the enter tainment of "dilatory motions" de signed to obstruct th paassg of bills. Ia tbe right to make these motion lie th only defence of the minority egainst th majority, Very likely this right msy be abused, but at the same time it destruction would be the sig nal for a rampant overriding of the opinion of the weaker party by those Whose own protection is amply pro vided for by their numerical strength. Fortunately, they are not all But lers on ths Radical sida of th House, and a sturdy fight has thus far been made against the measure, and with so much suooess that the Radicals seem sbout to change front aud to clothe the movement in what they hope may prove a more attractive guise. Th dispatches tell us that it is thought that an attempt will be made to adjourn over until Monday, when the resolution msy be modified so as to include only the remainder of the present session. It is hoped that the opponent of this dangerous move ment will be sufficiently on the alert to effectually oppose it when it is next brought forward. The population of Colorado, says the Nashville Union, according to the census of 1800, was 34,277. That of 1870 gave it 39,864. At the ssme rate of Increase it would now have a popu lation of something over 41,000. Wo have in Tennessee two counties, Da vidson and Shelby, each .of which nearly double Colorado in popula tion. It will be teen from this com parison what glaring wrong the present Congress meditates in admit ting this Territory as State in the Union for the purpose of securing two additional Radical Senators.
