The town has voted to expend $10,000 npon the celebration. In other words, the men of Oonoord bave taken from the women ot Oonoord 82,000 without- their consent,' and bave spent it in oelobrating the princi ple 'that taxation without representa tion is tyranny,' " Tbe Milwaukee Naa says : Did not the Republican administration put in the Cabinet the ex-rebel Akerman, who was Adjutant Qeneral to Robert Toombs, founder of the Andersonville prison pen 1 Did they not pnt into office the rebel, Gen. Longstroet, who 1 almost gained the battle at Gettys burg ? Did they not appoint the ex rebel, Gov. Orr, Minister to Russia ? Is not the rebel guerrilla, Mosby, a confidential agent of the President T And yet do the Republican party talk about the danger of putting rebels in to office. The Treasury Department has been offioialy notified by the government of Greece that in consequence of the pievalenoe of a dangerous sickness among sheep and goats in that ooun try, the importation of these animals ia forbidden until the disease prevail ing shall have disappeared. The im portation ot horses, cattle and potatoes was forbidden by the German govern ment some time ago, and the inter-diction is still in force. Bpain has also issued a decree prohibiting the impor tation of potatoes into that kingdom from the United States, through fear of importing with them the Colorado potato-bng. A curious structure is rapidly rising, or, rather, sinking, in England. It is a church designed to accommodate the crowded fishing population in one quarter of the city. Land being difli colt to procure, it was determined to build a church under the street. The floor of this underground edifice lies thirty feet below the surfsoe of the toad, and is reached by descending a flight of stone steps. In form the churoh is a loug parallelogram, 132 feet by 50 feet. The altar is at the north end, opposite the base of the stairs. The structure is to have an or gan in the west aisle, which is divided from the nave of the columns of Bath i . o. Attached to the church ia a t "ryroom, also subterranean. B. F. Butler, the mm who has stood for so loug a time high iu the councils of the Republican party and who was identified with so much of the Radical rascality and malignity under which the Houth has suffered for ten long yoars pant, is scarcely ever heard of now, Representative of neither de cency, honesty or patriotism, he was simply one of those miscreants spewed up by the late war and now that men's passions have cooled aud fraternal feelings are once more finding expres sion all over the common country, Butler sinks to the cesspools from which the war called him into public existence. Still, a man oanuot die either mor ally, socially, or politically, without some one ooming to the front with a word or two of eulogy and in this in stauoe the Indianapolis Journal, not wishing to say too much end altogeth er unwilling to say nothing at all, launches on the current of press litera ture the following remarkable para graph, eulogistio of the already stiuk . ing oaroaas of the Boast : "lie is charitiable, chato aud tem perate, lie does uot boast of gener ous acts, but often does them, lie never gambles, rarely takes a glass of wiue, aud ouly swears on considerable provocation, lie is not a saint, but, compared with some of his defamers, he is Hyperion to a satyr," sa As a curiosity this paragraph is cer tainly worthy of the free circulation which is being given to it by the press. There is not one word there ot Butler's long life as a politician, nor oue single endorsement of any action of his iu publio life; nothing said of his honesty or veracity as a man of of any possible claim which he might put forth to any of those noble virtues which refluo aud elevate the souls of the son of men. It is decidedly a left-handed complimeut, and about as negative as a compliment could possibly be. Ac cording to the Journal's obituary, .butler is neither a miser, a libertiue or a drunkard, nor does he boast of his good deeds probably because he has lever done any; he.is not a gunib- Ir, nor is he profane exoept ou "con siderable provocation.'' As the para graph speaks only of negative virtues, ai in w uo juierruu mat JUe Can SHOW no positive ones.
