CENTENNIAL OF THE OLDEST MINISTER IN THE UNITED STATES. THE JEROME PARK RCES. New York, June 8 Night Early this morning burglars entetred the house of Aaron Shute, iu Brooklyn. Shute beard one of them in his room and seized him. TVhil - he had the burglar down the latter fired tvice, both balls going i through Sbute's neck and one touching his brain. The burglar escuped. It is thought that Mr. Shute wdl die. The room shows every evidence of adesperatestrnggle. The one hutdreth birthday of Father Henry Boehn, of Newark (N. J.) Methodist Episcopal Conference, and seventy-sixth of his ministry, was celebrated to-day in Triuity M. E. Church, of Jersey City. The Church was crowded, including many minis ters. The venerable Father arrived some time a'ter the commencement of services, and remained until the olostt. Addresses were made by Bishop Simp son and others. THE SUPREME COURT SUSTAINS , TUB SENATE. Concord, June 8. --Night After a long argument, the Court was of opin ion that when the Senate adjudged Messrs. Priest and Proctor duly elect ed Senators, their action was final and conclusive as to their right. The opin ion was based on the assumption that at the time of the action of the Senate a constitutional 1 quorum was present. The opinion is signed by Chief Justice dishing and Associate Justices Ladd and Smith, TEXAS. SUIT FOR CONTEMPT AGAINST THE GALVESTON NEWS. Galveston, June 8. Night In the United States District Court this A. M., in the case against the proprie'fSrsof tho News, the attorneys for the defen dants presented a motion to quash tho indictment on the following grounds : First The Court had no jurisdiction in such manner in contempt, and suoh procedure on tho part of the Court was contrary to all laa? and practice of the United States. Second That while the proprietors of the News claimed tho right and privilege to dis miss all questions bofore tho Court in whioh the publio was interested, yet in the article referred to on law and metier law. no disrespect was intended to the . Court, as inti mated in the orders for arrest. nor any attempt made to influence the case then pending in the Court, nor bring it into disrepute. Judge Wm. Ii.
