For luai y years pt, iu Mnryhtnd, the Democrat a Lave uniformly can ied the elections, their majority at the lna Goiitral State election, that of 1 873, when a Btate Comptroller was chosen, having been 19,083, Vhis year the Democratic candidate for Governor ia John Lee Carroll, who was nominated by the Demooratio Convention after a bitter contest. Accusations of corrup tion wort made aga!nst his aupportera, who were also charged with not con ducting the affair of the State goverr- ment as they ought and the party di vided, a faction, the airength of which ia not very clearly estimated, forming a coalition with the Republicans, aud nominating J. Morrison Harrii aa the Demooratio Reform and Republican candidate. The chances favor the eleo tlon of Carroll., A to New York, the Democrat elected Got. Tilden last year byCO,- 317 majority. This year the candi dates for Seoretary of State, the chief offioer to be voted for, are John Bigc- low, Democrat, and Frederick W. Seward, Republican. Much of the interest in the New York el cot ion is just now absorbed in the contest in New York oity for the local offices, where the various parties opposed to Tammany Hall have united upon a ticket in opposition to the one put in the field by that organization. In Minnesota, the Republicans elect ed Chief Justioe MoMillan last year by 9,885 majority, and Got. Davi, in 1873, by 5,519 majority. There is Governor to be ohoaen thia year. In Wisconsin, in 1873, the Democrat and Liberal Republicans were auo ocs&ful over the Regular Republican, and elected Got. Taylor by 15,412 ma jority, aud a Governor i also to be ohosen this year. Minnesota And Wis consin are what have heretofore been kno rn as "Granger" States, and in each, in 1873, the "Patrons of Hus bandry" or "Grangera" were allied with the successful party. As a po litical foroe, however, the "Grangers" are not now regarded aa of so muoh importance as they were sometime ago, and this may affect the elections next month. These six States will bold the most important of the November elections, from a political standpoint fo New Jersey there will be members of the Legislature ohosen. and their selection is of local importance, owing to the legislation rendered necessary by the recent adoption of amendments to the new Jersey Constitution at NathantolJacobi's HARDWARE DEPOT, SASH.
