This business has now grown to proportions which begin to otaim the attention of wealthy corpor ations, and we are not surprised to learn tbst a vigorous effort is about to be mad to deprive Captain Wooton of the benefits of .his . yean of lstwr and enterprise. Indeed a similar at tempt sometime since resulted unfa vorably, and very recently Wooteu Express ha extended its business to Asheville, planing Wilmington is closer commercial relatione with that tity and seotion. We have been informed that Captain Wooton has been notified by the uen aral Superintendent of the Southern Express Company that be would no longer be recognised by that mam moth monopoly as doing an Express business, although he had entered into bond in the sum of twenty thousand dollars to insure the Southern Express Company against loss by reason of any through busiuess they might do in common. The object of this wealthy company, owned by the Adams Eipreis Oompa ny, is to drive Captain Wooton out of business by cutting of all oommunica tion with him, and to usurp the bnsi oeM upon the lines over whion his Erpree now runs. ' Wdl this effort succeed? That de pends mnoh npon our own people and State government. Captain Wooteu is but an individual, engaged euooees fully in the express business betweon Wilmington aud Asheville. He hns given very general aud great satisfao tion. His charges are much ' lownr than those of the Southern Express, and he does his work as satisfactorily, as safely and as expeditiously as does the Southern Express Compsny. Ho is a hard working, Southern man, making in honest livelihood by bis busino, whiles the stockholders of tlie Southern Express Company are wealthy men who oare little for the in terests of this or any other commu nity, except to far as it will add lo fortuaes. 1 w no that ik i not the f"8bioa for newspapers to talk thus plainly ut wealthT corporations, but wt cannot remain ailent when we believe . the intercaU of Iheoommunity will ''7 our lioe, and when tlie rights and welfare of a fellow-ottixeb is to be interfered with by a powerful wijmiaviuui Wa feel sure that our immediate oitiiens and those from here to Ashe ville will not tolerate suoh a warfare against a geutle-nan doing a legitimate business. To read the revelations in the Avery trial and to be shocked is ine vitable. It is not alone Uen. After sll we sre Americans before we are Democrat, and we can not snppreRH a feeling of iud'gnant humiliation at the shameh ss greed of the present incumbents of the White Houee whereby the houor of the whole nation is prostituted iu the eyes of the whole world. It was no longer surmise, suspicion or alander, it is a lamentnble faot es tablished by legal evidence that tfco powerful motor from whioh was com muoioated all the pownr to the most oolossal combination of robbers of the national treasury and detainers of the natioual honor was located next dor r to the treasury building in Washing bin the White House.
