Tho Wilson Advance WOODAKD 6c CONNOR ?ftBlfchm and Proprietors. ... . . : a X I'. WOOD4R I, IV. l.AM AM i i:it. TRTDAT. NOVEMBER 5. U30 tHKEMtTld.Vr Vfc snrrender to-day our crtitori: 1 columns to election new, St&te and National. Most of our readers Lave clouDtlc?s learned already, that our National ticket has been defeated by a "solid North." with tbe exception of New Jersey. We were not entirely nnnrenared for this result, the extra- r - -g- - - - - . ordinary efforts made by the republican party, with General Grant at its. head. to Inflame the passions and .arouse the prejudices of the Northern people against the solid South, has been as we feared successful. ' Sectional ani xnosity has borne its legitimate fruit. Jfll other considerations have been as bnc ''dust in the balance" when weighed against Southern influence-in our national councils. The era of peace and reconciliation so "devoutly wished fcr", by every true patriot, and which we had fondly hoped to see inaugurated by the election of the peerless Hancock, has been indefinite ly postponed.-. The - North and IKcst have preferred to endorse bribery, perjury and the most gigantic fraud over perpe trated npou.lhe liberties of any people, to the elevation to the Presidency of onc of their own bravest soldiers and ablest Statesmen, because he received the cordial support of the Southern people. It is not credi table to the intelligence and patriotism of the North and West ai.d indicates a Jo state of morality calculated to awaken the gravest apprehensions for the future of this country. Our State election has resulted as we'antlcipated in the election of the Hancock and English .Electors by a handsome .majority, and also our en tire State ticket, and a majority of democratic members of the next Leg wlature. - This result is highly gratify ing, wh'en wo remember tha extraordi-. Uary efforts made to divide and defeat, the democratic party in this State. TVe regret that.this attempt of the ene loy was partially successlul in a few counties, but our democratic friend throughout the State have fought a good fight and won a brilliant victory. All honor to the democracy of the "good-old North Sta'c," and her gal lant sons. The. ringing tones of her loquent sons were heard from the tlountains to the" Seashore, and the flault of the election has proved, the faitkfulnets 'and efficiency of . their efforts. A grateful people should tr horror thenr' for their patriotic labors, aud be ready to reward them for their sacrifices aud services. From tha partial and imperfect re turns received, we give the following democratic majorities : Camden 53, Martin 100, : Pamlico 275. Pitt 420. Wayne 108, Ilarnet 400, Chatham 500. Franklin 95,JJohnston 400, Nash 100, Orange 500, Randolph 250. ' ' ' A'ancei Armfield, Dowd, Scales, Pox. Latham and Sliacklefrd are" elected to Congress from thoir respective Districts. Hubbs republican Is elected from Ihli District. The . p., delegation in the next Con gress will be seven democrats and one republican. The Vasin;ton Post in suitming up the result of Tuesdays elections says. -Gatfieldjis elected. General Grant a nominated for " 18S4. The fraud of 1876 is condoned. - This decision comes from a tribunal from whose decree there is no appeal. It is not necessary to look for the cause of republican suc cess, All the corporate capital of the United States is" -identified with that naxtv. Ihft political action : - -irAwAnM vote tne u'- - t Ieft to their own iQcUnattons."- We have seen no returns indicating whether the Constitutional Amend ments hare been adopted or rejected. We presume that the first, prohibiting the .payment of the' "Special Ta Bonds," has been adopted, the latter, in relation to the support of the Asy lums, we hope has been defeated. Had it been generally understood, we are quite sure such would have been the result. . G. W. Blount, Esq., request us to state that he was not a candidate for the Senate, and that Lis name was p'aced on the republican ticket with out his knowledge or consent. It was generally known in Wilson last Fri day thatj Mr. Blount had been eadors cd by the Ilepnblicans. On Saturday a large crowd of people from Wilson and Naslv counties tUfflded the speak ing in this place, and If Mr. Blount' did not desire the nomination, he rai pe culiarly unfortunate in not having availed himself of go favorable an op portunity to correct the impression which had awe abroad. We are glad to learn however that Mr. Blount now unwilling to be placed in so unfa. vorable a light before the people, and we will cheerfully accord him space in our columns to make an explanation of the matter over, las own signature, wincu we tuinic under . lue circum stances justice to himself demands. OlHtOUXTV ELECTION. We publish elsewhere the full official vote of Wilson county. We must con fess our disappointment at the result. We have never known the democracy of the county to be so divided, nor rarely have we ever seen the Republi cans more united. Disaffected demo crats, independent republicans, and negroes were thoroughly organized in their fight against the regular demo cracy and, under such circumstances there is really no causa for surprise that our candidates for sheriff and register of deeds were defeated. Ocly a few1 years ago Wilson was one of the banner democratic counties of the Slate, but the democratic majority for the presidential aud State ticket is greatly decreased and now we have the mortification of seeing for the first time a negro 'elected to the office of constable in Wilson township. Dem ocrats white men should heed this warning. If this is some of the fruits of independentism, would it not be well for a'l white men to stop and con sider before they engage in further strifes and dissensions. In union there is strength, but a divided demo cratic party must surely give way, sooner or later, to a triumphant repub lican party, with its long train of evils. I It is not the election of independents that has done the people and the par ty any injury, but the effect they have had in the canvass by dividing the democratic vote and giving theradicals a chance to play their little gam suc cessfully. . LATEST ELECTION NEWS- II arris and Battle, Democrats, are elected to the Senate from Wilson, Nashi and Franklin, by 375 to 400 maT jority. The democrats in this State have elected seven out of eight Congress men a gain of one Kitchin, democrat is defeated in this district by 4000 to 5000 majority. GREENE.
