KNIGHTS OP'LABOB. The Advance does not believe John Nichols will ever dare meet B. II. Bunn on the stump. He is a coward and would fear to meet the fearless Bunn for a fair and candid discussion of the issues of the day. Ilia tac- ics are to sneak around among the people and tell any sort of lie to deceive the- people.' He 'loves darkness rather than lght" and we have no idea, we repeat that he will meet Mr. Bunn on the stump. Dockery says he is the leader of the negro party in North Car olina. It seems he is not totally devoid of truth, and we, for one belive in giving the devil his dues, so we proclaim to the world that in a speach delivered in the town of Wadestoro coun ty of Anson, State of North Carolina, by Oliver H. Dockery ou luesday, the 28th day of August, 1888, the said Dockery did deliver himself of one truth and we call upon the brethren throughout the State to see that lie gets due credit fot it.-- Wadesboro Messenger. The Advance is speaking af ter the example set by Mr. T. V. Powderly the head of the Knights of Labor when it lays this organization has no ticket in the field. Mr. Tow derlyjin reply to a letter of in quiry as to who composed the Knights of Labor ticket for President, says the order has no ticket. . j I The action of the disgr un tied few in this county who, Contrary to the advice of the "head of the order, have attempt ed to prostitute the order to their own selfish schemes of personal aggrandisement has misrepresented the order to the people of the county. Ihe effort of the unprincipled men to constitute every assembly of the Knights of Labor in the county a political machine does not receive the endorsement of many of the white members of the order even though they did tolerate the meetings being held in the halls of the assem- blies. The men who are lion est and sincere, wno are mem- bers of the order because they endorse the cardinal principle of the order, feel that the order has been misrepresented and that the nominees for the dif ferent county offices in opposi tion to Democracy are by no means entitled to go i before the people and represent are nominees of an tion that does not go into poli tics and that according to Mr, Powderly, has no candidates in the field. If these men are can didates of the Knights of La bor then they are not in accord with ths order, they, should be expelled for violating the obli gations they have taken. If they are not candidates of the order then they act a lie when they call on members of the or ganization to support them be cause they are candidats of the Knights of Labor. that they organiza Joint Discussion. The beautiful girls I saw at the sea shore this sunnier, many of them teachers, will have to hold their 1 certificates at the hands of negroes. The next step will be to elect the judges by districts, and then a negro judge will hold court in Ala mance County. I ask you white men, if you wish to see this? The truth of the whole mat ter is that thy are. Radicals, deep dyed, but they are too cowardly to avow it. They only lack the best element in Radicals boldness, to make them full fledged. The only terms upon which the latter would agree to make additional appointments was that they should be in the West which Judge Fowle had already canvassedJiidge Fowle desired that the appointments should be made in "sections canvassed by neither. The Advance belives that it is me auiy 01 a county news paper to show up the men who constitute the Republican coun ty ticket as vigorously, as it does the men on the State or National ticket. We hope -to do our duty in this campaign, and we promise to do it if the Demo crats of the county will furnish as with the information upon which to proceed. If we make the opposition mad we care not.1 We propose : working for the best interest of the State and if sorne White people through greed and selfishness ally -themselves with the ne groes and .attempt to thereby place the worst 'element of our poplation in the seat of govern ment they deserve noonsidera tion and tlicy will receive ho great deal at our hands. It is an evidence to us that we are doing good to the cause Demo cracy where .its opponents be come angered with and de nounce us. i The Advance , regrets that any feeling other than brother ly love should exist between men of the same political par ty. Yet such appears to be the case. Toramie Devereaux Who wa s described by a ne gro orator as "a wliite man with a negroes principles" said, in his speech in Wilson, that "anv man who did not he long to either the Democratic Or Republican parties was Traitor, a Skulk and a Sneak." Now the Advance which al ways endeavors' to be accommo dating gave Devereaux the benefit of its columns to show that F.I. Finch was one of the men to whom his epithets ap plied. We have not called this gentleman a " "Traitor" we simply reported what one of his own kind "a white man with a negroes principles" said of him. While it pains us greatly to see the great indig nation felt by "Traitor" Finch and to hear his denunciation of his co -laborers in his efforts to place negroes in authority over the honest white people of North Carolina, it is a Kilken ny cat fight, so far as we are concerned. It concerns us only as a disinterested spectator at a monkey show. WOMEN'S Red Flannel and White Vesta and 100 Corsets with Mrs Cleveland's OF GOODS EVER SEEN IN WILSON. With the Republican nom inee declaring himself the leader of the negro party and the Third party favoring negro women voting, is it not about time for us white men "to stand together." x "You may talk about your Vances and Ransom's and Fowle's and Waddell's, but the best political speaker in North Carolina is'," said an intel ligent gentleman in Greensboro Saturday night. We have yet to hear of one word or sentence in hiT whole letter -that has the true impress of statesmanship. The party imposed a burden On "Ren Hnr" when they gave him that platform from which to frame a letter, j The wonder lo us is that it is not more shallow and insincere. Poor old Harrison! His party has handicapped him in many ways; first by- the millstone of a platform, then by the total eclipse of the Rlaine boom, and by, other minor things that surely proclaim his defeat in November.
