My attention has been called by one of my friends to a local in the "The Times", of July the third, headed "Manly", and the reference therein to myself, as an officer. In justice to myself and the friends,;, "who so loyally gave me their sup-j port, I cannot let this pass unnoticed, i The young editor of the Times ' did call my attention to the existence ' of a "Bucket Shop", in Wilson, but it was at the close of the Court and after the Grand Jury Lad 'been dis charged. I told him that I was sorry he had not reported it earlier, with the names oi reliable witnesses,", so I could have sent a. bill to the Grand Jury. I also told him that I j was willing" and anxious to do my j duty to the community in this and ! and other matter I told him that as the GrandJury had been discharg ed, I was powerU ss to act until an other Term of Cout, but the way was still open to him or all other good citizens to make complaint before some Justice of the Peace and put the party under sufficient bond until next Court; I alsb told ' hrm that the Foreman of the Grand Jury had in formation of the fact of the existence of the Bucket Shop from more than one person, and that it was his aim to have the Grand? Jury to present the same, but he afterwards told me he forgot it,which I have rib reason or desire to doubt. Under the circumstances I think the Times, took a flimsy excuse and went far enough out of its way to make an "under the belt' thrust at me- I arn sorry it has- been done, and I must think there is another motive underlying this -matter other than appears on its face.
