A daily paper has been started at Dawson City, in the gold fields, with subscription at 3,000 a year; single copies, $7-50. Parties are starting daily from Junean for the upper Yu kon, and expect to reach the Klondyke region before severe weather commences. A cone rv ati ve estimate of the number of of persons that have gone to Alaska since the gold fever, is 22,600, of which 16 per cent, have struck finds. Landmark. For a prohibition city, Kan sas City, KanM is doing fairly well. Ten saloons were rackri Monday night and the author ities threaten to molest "sev enty1 mure. Norfolk Landmark. . The Councils ot Atlanta have passed an ordinance compel ling women to take their hats off in theatres. The mandate will be obeyed, but the women have, in retaliation, petitioned the Councils to put an end to men's going out between the acts. The battle is on, and we may expect to see a desperate conflict. Norfolk Landmark. . Consul Lee continues to ex . plain away the case of Miss Cisneros, and incidentally to deal the sensational journals someheavy blows. Not only was the wild rumor about cruelty unfounden,and not only does it turn out that the Spanish gov ernment contemplated a very light punishment, but it is also ascertained that the young lady is not of royal birth, is not an only daughter, and has not been reared in wealth and lux ury. All these stories were in geniously wound into the glit tering narrative of the new journalism, and a number of prominent and good women were deceived thereby. The farmers have been busy to- the past week, saving fodder and hay, and very little tobacco is ready for mar ket. At a very early dale, though, expect full breaks. Durham Receipts are light this weel:. Farmers are very light this week. Farmers are very busy curing the crop and cannot come to market. Both old and new tobacco is offered in about equal quantities. In old it comprises mixtures of common and medium grades, about the last odds and ends from the barns.
