Mor ris. .- A Short Crop. . . y A Norfolk telegram to the Rich mond Dispatch says : ' - Peanut dealers expect a short crop and probably not since the death of big trust have prices ruled as high as they are expected to be this fall. All the reports frcm the vicinity and from the other sections of the country where peanuts are grown indicate that.the crop will be light, and the quality inferior this year. The cause is the drought. Last year at this time there was a stock of old peanuts amounting to 50,000 bags here ; now there are not 10,000 bags in sight With this as the situation, the prices of the new crop will not be any lower than the prices of the old crop are cow. The prices are high now because of the conditions. Nuts are selling at 24 2 and 3 cent, a pound. Old Span- sh nuts are bringing 80 cents a bush- il. You should not, feel any GoldsBORO, N. C, October 4th- News reached here late Saturday night of the murder of Mr. Lon. Carr, a country merchant, who lives about four milts from Goldsboro. His throat was cut. from ear to ear and it is supposed he died almost instantly. ;A negro, Sam Wright, who had been at Mr. Carr's store duting the day, was arrested on sus picion. Carr's watch, pistol and $r5 in money were found on the negro's person, also blood on his clothes which makes evidence against him very strong and conclusive. A special from East Long Meadow. says: , Three lives were lost early' in the morning by the burning of a dwelling house in the -center of this place. The home of George Brownlee caught fire from a chimney. Mrs. Brownlee, her husband ancT two sons Thomas, aged 21, an-i James,- aged 19 escaped in their night robes, but Mrs. Brownlee and her son Thomas were a few minutes-later burn ed In the building, their bodies being buried in the ruins. Mrs. Brownlee, losing her head, rushed back into the house, thinking her sons had not come out. Thomas rushed after her to save her. and James after Thomas. James got out, .but was burned so severely that he died soon after. Mr. Brownlee himself was badly burned.
